NYCC officially opens its doors today, so hang on to your hats! Those who attended Retailer Day have already spent the entire day, and I’m one of them. I’ve got some Retailer Day reports today, and I can tell you it’s been a long day. There were 11 to 6 non-stop presentations, a short break (I went outside to feel the wind in my hair), and then a Lunar Cocktail Party with another round of presentations, including the same people as in the morning. Although I had to leave before the DC finale, I spoke with several retailers who definitely…
A.D. 2000’s sister magazine, the Monthly Judge Dred Megazine, is celebrating its 35th anniversary with all new stories and series. The issue will be available in print and digital in the UK from October 15th, with a US print release (available to order via Diamond and Lunar Distribution) scheduled for November 19th. The Judge Dredd megazine debuted in October 1990 as a monthly expansion of 2000 AD’s signature characters and served as a bonus anthology with stories that garnered more page counts than the weekly magazine. Megazine is a way to explore other (often distant) aspects of the broader Judge…
Transformers #25, the first issue from writer Robert Kirkman and artist Dan Mora, was released by Skybound this week and features a moment that looks like it could add a new element to the Energon Universe. That’s because this issue introduces the character Miles Mayhem to the series, revealing that he’s part of a secret government project working with the Autobots. If this name sounds familiar, you’re probably over 40 or an avid reader of IDW’s Hasbro Universe. Mayhem is the leader of the villainous organization Venom in the short-lived animated series The Mask. The character also appeared in IDW’s…
After unveiling a high-profile collection at Paris Fashion Week last weekend, luxury fashion brand Vivienne Westwood has announced an exciting new collaboration with VIZ. If you’re like me and love fashion as much as you love manga, the recently announced collaboration between these two iconic brands is perfect for you. On October 6, 2025, Cosmopolitan exclusively revealed that a new cover design is being created in collaboration with Vivienne Westwood to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Nana, written and illustrated by the elusive manga artist Ai Yazawa. One of the best-selling manga of all time, Nana tells the story of…
At New York Comic Con’s 2025 Retailer Panel, Marvel Comics announced a new Godzilla limited series. Godzilla: Infinite Roar! Writer Jerry Duggan and artist Javier Garon will reunite for a Godzilla: Destroy the Marvel Universe crossover work that will conclude in November. Endless roar! It will also feature art by Ig Guara. Endless roar! It follows Godzilla Destroy the Marvel Universe and Godzilla vs. Godzilla. One shot. The monster heads to space to team up with Knull, who may have first been teased in Godzilla vs. Godzilla. Spiderman part 1. Here is the full synopsis: As Godzilla rampages through space,…
Editor’s note: Jim Lee was the keynote speaker at the 20250 Retailer’s Day at NYCC. Lee spoke with great conviction in front of a demanding and often distracted audience. I felt like he had a lot to say that I needed to hear from industry leaders. Thank you to DC Comics for obtaining a recording of the speech to share with those who were not present in person. Hello everyone. I want to start with a warning: this speech is going to be disappointingly upbeat. We live in a world where the louder, the more angry, and the more polarized…
Oni Press is starting this year’s New York Comic Con with a bang. On Wednesday, the pop culture mecca’s retail day, Oni announced it had acquired Dave Baker’s acclaimed Halloween Boy series for publication. According to Oni officials, the first volume, “Last of the Halloween Boys,” is scheduled to be published in 2026. Most recently, Baker was the creator of the widely acclaimed (and Eisner Award-nominated) Mary Tyler Moorhawk. He is the writer, artist, and letterer of Halloween Boy and its signature duotone style. “Halloween Boy is my attempt to create a two-fisted adventurer for the post-superhero era. This book…
On Wednesday, SHP Comics announced that its upcoming NSFW anthology Tales from EroticTech will be a direct-to-consumer exclusive when it hits comic shops in December. The Beat has all the details, allowing the collection to reveal writer/artist Dean Haspiel’s story. Tales from Erotek Vol. 1 launched on Kickstarter in February and raised about $11,000 from backers. The anthology is an adaptation of SHP Entertainment’s award-winning debut indie film Technical Support, which premiered at film festivals in 2024. The anthology is set in the same world as SHP’s upcoming five-issue limited comic series EroTech, which debuts in November. Here is the…

At the Kodansha House Editorial Committee meeting on October 7, 2025, Kodansha announced the development of a new manga award that will welcome international submissions in “early 2026.” To become a manga artist in Japan, most manga artists begin by submitting one-shots (complete short comics) to the award contests of the magazines they wish to publish. Winners and runners-up will be introduced to editors, who will work with creators to submit story ideas for potential serialization in the magazine. However, most of these awards require applications to be submitted in Japanese. In recent years, manga publishers have become increasingly interested…
