Years after “The Blast,” an incident that spread a virus that turned ordinary people into zombie-like creatures known as “sics,” John and his teenage daughter Sarah emerge from hiding to search for supplies. For John and Sarah, there is always danger in the post-explosion world, and as expected, the sick are of little concern to them.

This is a very well-constructed story that begins in earnest in brutal fashion, with John and Sarah having their first horrifying encounter with the others. We have been slowly observing their lives before the explosion. Not just the catalyst for the event itself, but also the family dynamics before it all really clicked for the fans.

There are definitely elements of The Last of Us here, with the father-daughter dynamic, the ever-present threat of strangers, and the infected, which are frankly easy to deal with.

That being said, the disease that causes Sick seems to be very easily transmitted, and this becomes a surprising detail early on in the series.

This four-issue adaptation by screenwriter Lane Fortenberry, based on an earlier audio drama, gets off to an incredibly compelling start, with two great protagonists and a world full of danger and harrowing detail, leaving readers hooked for the ending.

Matías De Vincenzo’s art is beautiful, expressive, and meticulously detailed, with an almost scratchy art style that perfectly suits the material.

The Day Everything Changed #1 is a great read and I highly recommend giving it a read. The wait for issue 2 will feel very long, especially considering the cliffhanger of issue 1…

The Day Everything Changed #1 is available for purchase now from Riffage Media’s Ko-fi page. Thanks to Lane Fortenberry for providing a digital copy of the comic for review.

Hello! I’m Jason. I write articles for midlifegamergeek.com every day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human-generated content (that’s never been plagiarized or copied through the efforts of other writers), please help us keep this site running by making a donation.

Not only do I not earn any money from my writing here (although I do earn a small commission from affiliate links posted on my page, but as an Amazon Associate I do earn from qualifying purchases from these links), my work sometimes seems to be stolen and repurposed by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure, of course, but we really appreciate any support you can provide. You can easily support us through Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or the PayPal link.

Thank you very much for your donation. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to read my article. Please remember. This entire article is by Jason Brown and can be found at midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Please support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will not only help me keep the lights on here, but will also help keep my writing dream alive. However, please understand that there is no pressure. I hope you enjoy reading my article.
