Borg Queen Agnes believes she has a solution to the Burn’s devastating effects. She intends to assimilate the singularity. Or is it her? With the addition of the resurrected James T. Kirk, she may encounter more resistance to her plans than she expected. Will that resistance be in vain?
This was a really strong issue. I say this after being pretty disappointed with The Last Starship overall. Hernan Gonzalez’s dark, scarred, yet realistic art is great, but some close-ups of faces with the unmistakable features of photo references (sometimes featuring people who don’t even resemble the characters; why does Agnes look like Sigourney Weaver in one panel?) are a bit disappointing.
We finally got a little more legitimacy for Kirk’s involvement in this whole story, but I’m still not entirely convinced that Sato couldn’t fill the role of Kirk in some way. However, this issue is at least too long to properly justify Kirk’s role and personal history here. There’s also a very well-written subplot about fellow crew member Vi harboring a huge, well-hidden secret that has a huge payoff.
While not without its flaws, The Last Starship #8 is a big step in the right direction and actually makes me look forward to reading the next issue.
Hello! I’m Jason. I write articles for midlifegamergeek.com every day.
