This anniversary issue of the Superman and Batman team-up series features Weird Al on the cover, but Weird Al doesn’t actually appear in either story. However, the cool variant cover does a great double duty with that Bizarro: Year None #1 cover.

What we have here, aside from some obscure character cameos, are two incredibly beginner-friendly stories that delve into the contrast between the two title characters and (in the second story) their protégés.

The first Dream Team tells the story of a duo of comic book protagonists who adventure through nightmarish environments in order to cure the world’s insomnia.

Sturm and Drang then appear as Robin and Jimmy Olsen take on Batgirl and Supergirl as they compete to prove they’re the better teenage team in their search for an ancient relic.

Both stories are really fun, and calling them “basic” seems a bit unfair. Because the entire comic seems designed to be accessible to even the casual fan, and really gets to the heart of why each character’s approach to justice and heroism is different.

Additionally, the art, especially for Dream Team, is absolutely gorgeous. Dan Mora (who also drew the Weird/Totally Ordinary Al Yankovic cover) is really good here, with a brilliant rendition of The Dark Knight and the Last Son of Krypton. A surreal excursion through a dream world is the perfect excuse to get lost in art, and Maura takes it to town with her art.

Although not flashy, given the nature of the subject matter, Sturm and Drang’s art (by Adrián Gutierrez) is also great.

This feels like an old-school one-shot from before all comics were six-part stories, something written for an expected industry paperback collection that you can’t easily pick up in the middle of a storyline.

I enjoyed reading Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #50, although more regular fans may be disappointed by the lightness of this piece in the long run. This is another example of how well DC is handling its biggest characters at the moment.

Hello! I’m Jason. I write articles for midlifegamergeek.com every day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human-generated content (that’s never been plagiarized or copied through the efforts of other writers), please help us keep this site running by making a donation.

Not only do I not earn any money from my writing here (although I do earn a small commission from affiliate links posted on my page, but as an Amazon Associate I do earn from qualifying purchases from these links), my work sometimes seems to be stolen and repurposed by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

No pressure, of course, but we really appreciate any support you can provide. You can easily support us through Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or the PayPal link.

Thank you very much for your donation. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to read my article. Remember: This entire article was written by Jason Brown and published on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Please support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will not only help me keep the lights on here, but will also help keep my writing dreams alive. However, please understand that there is no pressure. I hope you enjoy reading my article.
