Welcome to another edition of Fantastic Five. This week includes wild crossovers, multifaceted mayhem and more. Let’s go to the book!

The Week’s Best Comics: June 5, 2025

#5: Jump Scare #4

“Jump Scare” #4 Review

This is the last issue of the miniseries, but with an open ending that sets the future storyline teasing. I hope to use Jump Scare to get more miniseries (and perhaps even a regular series?). The mix of Grindhouse Horror and Superhero Action books will be one of the more unique and fun books about the stand.

#4: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto #4

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto” #4 Review

Overall, this is a truly fun issue that reminds readers of how much fun the comic is. This is not a book on some super-complex issues, nor is it intended to be a game-changing thing. That’s completely fine. In fact, that’s a big reason why books thrive. The creative team involved fully understands the core concepts of these characters, and their appreciation for these worlds is clear from the beginning to the end.

#3: Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma #3

“The Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma” #3 shows immortal shortcomings

The Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma #3 moves all the right ways as he explores why someone doesn’t want to live forever. It’s been a while since one of the DC black label books influenced me, but this is a comic and older and newer superhero lovers and indie champions would want to avoid the pull list.

#2: The Ultimate Wolverine #6

“The Ultimate Wolverine” #6 delves deep into Logan’s state of mind

Ultimate Wolverine #6 is a soulful, standalone story that delves deep into Wolverine’s core and breaks the cycle of bloodshed and violence. It also marks the turning point for the series. This only makes me more excited about the issues in the future. Wolverine may have broken out of his chains, but Condon and Lin were engrossing me in what’s coming next.

#1: JSA #8

“JSA” #8 is the perfect standalone story

JSA #8 is Lemire’s strongest problem. It’s also the perfect starting point for new casual readers looking to get a standalone story from the comic shop on Wednesday. In just one issue, Lemire and Guidry offer an action-packed golden age story with modern sensibilities, setting the perfect tone for the entire series.
