It’s strange to think that it’s been almost a decade since DC’s Rebirth initiative, and almost a decade since they reorganized their continuity into a version that incorporated the post-Crisis world into the one rebooted in the New 52. The latter event also takes place 15 years later. I’ll probably revisit both within the next year, but for now I wanted to focus on the ones that spun out of Wonder Woman. As part of Rebirth, the rebooted Wonder Woman title was helmed by Greg Rucka, Liam Sharp, and Nicola Scott. The two artists alternated between painting issues in different…

German actor Lars Eidinger has been cast as Brainiac in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. The film, scheduled for release in 2027, centers on the relationship between Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, and Superman, played by David Corenswet, who are forced to join forces against a common enemy. Fans have long speculated that the common enemy is Brainiac, and today Gunn finally confirmed that (along with the casting) regarding Blue Sky. “After a worldwide search for Brainiac from Man of Tomorrow, Lars Eidinger came out on top,” Gunn announced. “Welcome to the DCU, Lars.” Eidinger is…

Back in the 2000s, two crazy kids named Laura Hudson and Tim Leung decided to create Wizard magazine for people who loved all kinds of comics, not just superheroes. The result was Comic Foundry magazine. It ushered in a new generation of comics readers and creators, with cover stories on figures like Brian Lee O’Malley and Matt Fraction. Hudson edited Comics Alliance, one of the most influential comics websites of all time, and codified the next wave of socially relevant comics. But then both Hudson and Leon went on to more traditional media careers. Hudson spoke to Wired and Leon…

Last week saw the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13, the first issue from the new creative team of writers Gene Luen Yang and Freddie E. Williams II. It’s safe to say that IDW Publishing was promoting this book. There’s a good reason for that. After teasing the arrival of an all-new enemy named Ujigami, the final page of TMNT #13 reveals the most shocking development regarding Ujigami’s true identity. Yes, the deadly new villain Ujigami is actually Master Splinter, the recently resurrected father of the TMNT! Via IGN, writer Gene Luen Yang and editor Jake Thomas discussed this…

This year has been a whirlwind year for AI development, with more companies than ever revealing the use of generative AI in things like video games. While the comics industry has broadly taken a firm stance against generative AI, some creators have been accused of using it in their works. Most recently, artist Sean Northridge shared a thread of AWA’s Ultimate Oz Universe: The Lost Lands panels illustrated by Mike Deodato Jr., calling them “a combination of AI slop, traced photo references, and actual (almost rushed) art.” Many people have used Northridge’s thread as a rallying point to talk about…

I recently sat down to talk with Scott Dunbier, founder of Act IV Publishing and creator of Artist’s Edition. For those who aren’t familiar with Artist Editions, Artist Editions are full-size color reproductions of original comic book art. Yes, most original comic book art is done in black and white, pen and ink, or pencil. But by recreating the art in full color, the viewer can see all the uses of whiteout, all the blue pencil lines left on the page, and other imperfections that make looking at the original art so much fun. I spoke with Scott primarily about…
