In this edition of the ye olde Awards Roundup, three annual awards are now accepting applications, including the Eisner Award, France has introduced yet another comics award, and the British Book Awards has introduced a graphic novel category (also accepting applications). As previously announced, DC KO: Boss Battle is an upcoming DC KO tie-in one-shot that sends DC’s greatest superheroes into the challenge of unexpected challengers from comics, horror, fantasy, and gaming. The high-octane one-shot, which will be released next month on February 4, is created by the creative team of writer Jeremy Adams, artists Ronan Cricket, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Kieran McCune, Pablo M. Newly launched French publisher Morgaine has already signed major graphic novel deals with some of the industry’s biggest creators, The Beat can exclusively reveal the details. Acclaimed author Ram V, artists Anand Radhakrishnan and Evan Cagle, letterer Aditya Vidhikaru, and editor Eric Habern will create a multi-volume graphic novel series to be published by Morgen over three years, with Image Comics as the English-speaking publishing partner. Berkeley Breathed’s Bloom County was one of Physical Newspaper’s last blockbuster comics, running daily from 1980 to 1989 and then sporadically in newspapers in various spin-offs and formats until 2009. The original comic, which satirically combined politics and small-town humor, ended with a story in which Donald Trump’s brain was implanted in a cat. Has foresight. Desperado Books and series curator Joe Pruett today announced plans to revive the Eisner, Harvey, Gem, and Eagle-nominated Negative Burn on comics crowdfunding platform Zoop.
