Mitch Rowe, one of two MoviePass leaders indicted by the Department of Justice in 2022, pleaded guilty to securities fraud. The former CEO admitted to conspiring to mislead the public and investors about the service’s sustainability. Variety reports that details of Rowe’s plea agreement have not been made public.Prosecutors allege that Lowe knew from the beginning that the company’s $9.95 “unlimited” plan was a short-term gimmick to attract subscribers and inflate the stock price. He is also accused of making false statements about MoviePass’s long-term viability in press releases, interviews and SEC filings. Those statements included allegedly lying about the company’s…
In 2006, multi-award-winning author Cormac McCarthy published the novel The Road. This horrifying and dark tale of a father and son trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic, desolate, hellish world was a critical and commercial success, notably winning the author (who died in June 2023 at the age of 89) a Pulitzer Prize in 2007. Earlier this year, The New York Times named it one of the “Best Books of the 21st Century.” A film adaptation was announced in 2009, directed by John Hillcoat and starring Viggo Mortensen, but surprisingly, it took almost 20 years for The Road to be…
Apple’s Music Haptics feature is rolling out now as part of the official release of iOS 18. It’s an accessibility tool integrated with Apple Music on iPhone. The company says it will also integrate with third-party apps as long as your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi or cellular. To get started,…

Every other week, three authors will recommend some of their favorite books and series from Japan, Korea, and other countries. This week, we’ll be introducing a modern Shonen Jump classic, a treat for MMO fans, and, of course,…

Image credit: Ray & Jay Comics This issue of Raise Hell is all about young love and first love, as the demon Ali sets in motion a chain of events that could lead to serious heartbreak and cause a rift in the relationships of the three central friends. Issue 4 has a lovely pulse of longing, like that first chest-pounding pain of true love that you only get when you’re a teenager — the kind of pain that makes your heart skip a beat, takes your breath away and makes it impossible to focus on anything but the object of…
