A fool, an absolutely insane woman. Author: Vivian NguyenPublisher: Self-publishedPublication date: August 2025 About “The Fool, Absolutely Mad Woman.” Is it a work of occult literature? This is clear to some extent from the basic premise that women find lovers through mystical means. In fact, the book goes even further with mysticism, with author Vivian Nguyen doing tarot readings early on in the story of Sapphic longing to guide the path the story ultimately takes. But when I use the word “occult” in the context of The Fool, The Absolute Mad Woman, I don’t just mean its mystical connotations. Rather,…
There’s this idea that sometimes you just have to throw your all against the wall and see what sticks. It’s tedious, but certainly some of the ideas are here to stay and could be good ones. However, it is rare that the same philosophy is practiced and all stick. This is the case with Ben Ross-Davies’ Hexas, a strange and magical story about the wonderful chaos of authoritarianism, self-creation, and pure self-expression. Hexus follows a young witch who attempts to hypnotize an authoritarian leader and force him to resign. To do so, he teams up with a secret magical council…

The list of exits grows. Almost all of France’s biggest comics publishers have canceled their participation in the 2026 Angoulême International Comics Festival, with Frank Bondou’s company 9e Art+ set to remain as operator until 2036. Festival organizer association FIBD has been given a November 17 deadline to come up with an acceptable alternative that includes Mr Bondhu’s immediate removal or all of them are to resign. By Tuesday evening, there were indications that the local government could take over. Libération said the entire group of media participants, including Dupuis, Dargaud, Lombard, comic book publisher Kana, and the localizers of…
Geof Darrow almost needs no introduction. He is the legendary comics creator and illustrator behind Hard Boiled, The Matrix, and Shaolin Cowboy. His body of work over the last 40 years continues to be some of the most distinct to hit comics shelves. Someone influenced in equal parts by American, European, and Japanese comics. Every page of his holds some surprise or inventive use of the comics medium that feels fresh and inventive. Darrow might be the only person to have worked alongside by both Jack Kirby and Mœbius. I had the opportunity to discuss with Darrow the new collection The…
A lot of people have come and gone in recent weeks. Let’s get started! § One of the hottest new positions in the comics industry was who Scholastic would hire to run its line of children’s comics. The answer is Nikolai Mut, who joins us as senior editor for Manga & Graphics. Mr. Muth was previously a freelancer for Scholastic and most recently served as a project manager for the Americas representative office in Yokohama. He wrote on LinkedIn: I’ve always been drawn to publishing, and I’m so excited to be able to translate great manga and comics into English…
Skyler Gisondo, who played Jimmy Olsen in James Gunn’s Superman, is set to reprise his role in a game-changing new series from the creator of American Vandal. Variety reports that HBO Max is developing a (fake) true crime documentary series set in the DC Universe, titled DC Crime. The first season of DC Crimes will center around Gorilla Grodd, which could hint at a planned appearance for The Flash, but it’s equally likely that the story will center around Grodd’s political battle with Solovar in Gorilla City. DC Crimes is the second DC TV series announced today, following news that…
