The opening story of the latest volume of Saladin Ahmed’s Daredevil continues in Volume 2 of the trade paperback collection, as does the latest issue of the same series. This massive collection includes issues 6 through 10, as well as the recently released Giant-Size Daredevil issue. It’s an exciting story, but this trade is only part of the story, so be sure to pick up Saladin Ahmed’s Daredevil Volume 1: Hell Breaks Free as the first part. Let’s dive into this collection.

Daredevil #6 (9/10) – Saladin Ahmed and Aaron Kuder really show off their talents in how they present the world of Daredevil in this issue. Ahmed toys with DD’s faith, providing him with a path to embrace the good that comes with his choices, but at the same time keeps DD accountable by having him clean up some of the consequences of his actions. Kuder sends DD on a wicked journey that shows us two contrasting sides of DD. “Introductory Rites” continues with quite a few rekindlings of storylines and characters.

Marvel Comics

Daredevil #7 (9/10) – Daredevil and Wolverine bring the city to its knees as sin continues to haunt Matt Murdock. Ahmed has Wolverine question who is his master and investigate the issue of Murdock’s particular vice. Kuder and Aburtov deliver a fight that delivers brutality and keeps you glued to the punishment. “Introductory Rites” is a heartfelt welcome back of the fearless man. Daredevil #8 (8/10) – How can you not look dated at 60? The current creative team celebrates this anniversary with old and new creators. “Introductory Rites” adds layers to Murdock’s torment, and the wait is getting longer as interest grows. The added characters are even better parts of this wild buffet. The additional adventures take us to an era of Daredevil that should make fans of any era smile. Celebrate 60 years of the Fearless Man!

Marvel Comics

Daredevil #9 (8/10) – Great fight scenes power this issue as Bullseye takes on Daredevil. Punishment awaits as fists, feet, and faces collide. The Sins take a break in this issue as longtime fans have a reunion to enjoy. While this issue is enjoyable overall, it also feels a bit like a filler issue due to the length of this story arc. It’s still worth picking up, but the wait will be long as answers and showdowns await. Giant-Size Daredevil #1 (6/10) – We take a closer look at the unique dynamic between Sins and the Kingpin as they storm Hell’s Kitchen. We get a glimpse into Fisk’s mind and witness a relentless attack. This is a giant-size issue of Daredevil, but Fisk is in charge and we’re left pondering his motivations in luring DD in. Hopefully this interlude in the “Introductory Rites” story arc will build excitement for the rest of the adventure. Daredevil #10 (8/10) – Get ready for a fierce battle between Kingpin and Daredevil as the Deadly Sin comes into play. We’ve seen how the Sin has held Kingpin captive, now get ready to witness its wrath. This creative team knows how to beat Daredevil to the punch!

Marvel Comics

Saladin Ahmed’s Daredevil Vol. 2, “Hell to Pay,” is packed with great visuals and great ideas, but it’s missing a lot of story closure. If you bought Vol. 1 of this series, you’ll now be reading 11 volumes of comics with no closure. This is not a bad thing at all, but it’s quite a marathon. As a reader of monthly series, I enjoy it, but it can be tough. This is one of those moments where you feel sorry for the trade waiter, because it ends with “To be continued” even though the next volume is coming. Don’t miss the story, but I’m sure there’s a “Deluxe” somewhere with the whole story, so you might not need this collection.

Daredevil Volume 2: The Price of Hell by Saladin Ahmed

This story reminds me of Winston Churchill’s words, “If you’ve got to go through hell, keep going,” as Matt Murdock deals with issues from his past. The mystery of Sin haunting Marvel characters is intriguing and entertaining. I don’t have all seven books yet, but this collection had some great rewards. Saladin Ahmed, Aaron Kuder, Juan Cabal, and other talented creators deliver great entertainment, but it will leave you wondering how it ends.

It’s fantastic art as Marvel characters are possessed by the deadly sins, leading to some fantastic fight scenes.

Ahmed’s script is a great adventure and a big challenge for Daredevil.

The white costume is back!

This is the middle part of the story and depending on how this arc progresses, you may have to wait for the complete story depending on how you collect it.
