Dark Horse Comics produced some fantastic licensed work in the ’80s and ’90s, with their expansions of the Alien and Predator cinematic universes (not to mention some amazing crossovers) being particularly well-received.
At a time when comics still felt like they were made for kids, while mainstream titles were doing their best to be cutting edge, Dark Horse Comics felt like they were really targeting a mature readership and did a great job continuing storylines started in the movies and covering new ground with each series’ setting.
Their Terminator comic is more of the latter, eschewing the Sarah and John Connor aspects in favor of utilizing original characters for the story, and while the time travel aspect still features heavily, it also goes to some surprisingly new and, it has to be said, dark places.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Terminator (the first film came out in 1984), Humble has teamed up with Dynamite Entertainment, the current license holder of Terminator comics, to offer digital copies of the majority of the original Dark Horse Comics series, as well as some more recent titles (Want to read the awful 2029-1984 for an incredibly cheap price? Feel free to do so!).

You can buy a collection of 12 Terminator miniseries for around $15, which is an amazing deal, and while they’re not all special, they do contain some very interesting stories, including “Terminator: Burning Earth,” the first comic book piece published by legendary artist Alex Ross.
You can check out and purchase the bundle on Humble, and a percentage of your purchase will be donated to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, which works to protect authors and artists from legal action that could result in censorship of their work and, in extreme cases, prosecution.
Either way, these classic old-school Terminator comics are worth checking out – if you’re a fan of the series, there’s plenty to enjoy, and you’ll probably never get them this cheap again.
