Comixology Originals announced a new graphic novel this week from writer Michael Conrad, debut comics artist Nathan Auten, letterer Kyle Ahrens and editor Zane Barrow, which will be released in print by Dark Horse Books next spring. Neptune has been described as a “tale of revenge and redemption” that Conrad says borders on horror.

“It’s not easy to continue books like Tremor Dose and Double Walker, and I remain very proud of those two stories,” says Conrad. “With Neptune I wanted to rip something out of the headlines and put it into a graphic novel, and the result feels less like entertainment and more like watching a car crash that you don’t want to see but can’t look away from.

“Nathan Auten has done a masterful job: each page is both a beautiful display of his multimedia approach to sequential art, and a vulgar representation of a very sordid subject,” he continued.

Neptune follows Corey Harrison, who has recently been released from prison after serving 17 years for a violent crime. As he investigates the recent and mysterious death of his brother, he is forced to confront his past and what it means for his future. Beat was able to share an exclusive first look at Corey and his brother’s memories, see below.

“Making Neptune was not easy. The story contains many complex and troubling elements: incarceration, murder, human trafficking, exploitation,” Conrad said. “I would hesitate to call Neptune a horror story, but it is certainly a terrifying one.”

“Michael Conrad’s career as a comics artist continues to grow, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it,” added Jeff DiBartolomeo, GM and CTO of Comixology. “We’re thrilled to debut Michael’s creator graphic novels ‘Tremor Dose,’ ‘Double Walker,’ and now ‘Neptune’ on Comixology Originals. This is a heavy story with complex material that demands a unique artistic touch, and we’re pleased to shine a spotlight on the work of a talented emerging artist in Nathan Auten.”

Neptune will be available digitally from Comixology Originals starting September 3. The print version will be available at Dark Horse Books book retailers starting March 18, 2025, and at your local comic shop starting March 19, 2025.
