Let’s go back to 1987 and take a look at Dark Horse’s early comics. It’s a rich piece of cyberpunk with very impressive and detailed black and white art and a script that suggests some very interesting sociopolitical commentary.

Marcy St. Clair is a trekker who hunts down criminals for credit on the streets of New Gerrard hundreds of years in the future. When a group of smugglers kills two police officers, Marcy is tasked with tracking them down. However, with connections to terrorist groups, the task may be a little less easy for Mercy than expected…

This is a great opening question. It’s incredibly strong in terms of world-building, both in writing and art, and feels very rich as a result. The early cyberpunk style, with its flying cars, urban decay, and social themes slowly coming to the surface, makes it feel like a product of its time, but at the same time has aged well. Especially in fairly mainstream comics from the 80s.

There are several pages of art that are truly breathtaking. A great double-page showdown and a rich sunrise in New Guerraf. Even in black and white, it is a fantastic sight.

I had forgotten it even existed until I got the entire first series of Trekkers from Empire Comics in Portsmouth. Considering this first issue alone, it feels like an underrated hidden gem, and you can pick it up incredibly cheap these days. I look forward to reading the next five issues that will make up the first issue of Trekker. I will also be reviewing each issue as I read.

Hello! I’m Jason. I write articles for midlifegamergeek.com every day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human-generated content (that’s never been plagiarized or copied through the efforts of other writers), please help us keep this site running by making a donation.

Not only do I not earn any money from my writing here (although I do earn a small commission from affiliate links posted on my page, but as an Amazon Associate I do earn from qualifying purchases from these links), my work sometimes seems to be stolen and repurposed by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

No pressure, of course, but we really appreciate any support you can provide. You can easily support us through Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or the PayPal link.

Thank you very much for your donation. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to read my article. Please remember. This entire article is by Jason Brown and can be found at midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Please support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will not only help me keep the lights on here, but will also help keep my writing dream alive. However, please understand that there is no pressure. I hope you enjoy reading my article.
