With only a few days left in the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, I thought I’d revisit When We Burn #1 and check out the second and third of the four stories in the comic anthology.
I had already seen the first story and was very impressed with its world-building and gorgeous art, so I was very excited to check out the rest of the comic.
The author Denis Belasevic kindly shared with me the following stories: “The Night King” and “The Prayer”.
The Night King follows a noble thief on a mission to recover an important relic from a castle, but he encounters much more than he bargained for. In Pray, things seem dire for those within the church, but can their God help them?
Each story is told in a unique art style, and both stories are very impressive from a visual standpoint.
King of the Night is a thrilling and winding story that will surprise you until the last panel. My only criticism here is that the text that appears on the scrolls and seems essential to fleshing out certain aspects of the story can be difficult to read in parts due to the different colors used for the text.
Pray is also a visually extravagant story with a truly fantastical realism injected into its fantastical setting, but I felt some aspects of the story were a little unclear. Despite this confusion, overall it builds well on what came before.
Belasevic has created a truly fascinating fantasy world here with a lot of content. The dark tone will appeal to fans of gritty genre fiction like Game of Thrones and video games in the Dark Souls vein.
If you think this is possible, please back While We Burn #1 on Kickstarter. In addition to the comics, you’ll get access to a number of items at different pledge levels, including art and soundtracks to further immerse yourself in the dark fantasy world.
Hello! I’m Jason. I write articles for midlifegamergeek.com every day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human-generated content (that has never been plagiarized or copied through the efforts of other writers), please help us keep this site running by making a donation.
Not only do I not earn any money from my writing here (although I do earn a small commission from affiliate links posted on my page, but as an Amazon Associate I do earn from qualifying purchases from these links), my work sometimes seems to be stolen and repurposed by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
No pressure, of course, but we really appreciate any support you can provide. You can easily support us through Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or the PayPal link.
Thank you very much for your donation. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to read my article. Please remember. This entire article is by Jason Brown and can be found at midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
