A small group of talented young mercenaries try to earn a living despite the threat of bandits and rivals. Meanwhile, a dark prophecy seems to be coming true, with the ever-present danger of shifting loyalties and betrayal. In a world where magic and monsters are a reality, danger lurks around every corner and tragedy can strike when you least expect it.

This first issue of a five-issue story (more issues are planned after this chapter) wastes no time in shocking readers with quick betrayal and death in the opening sequence, before a flash-forward introducing the main cast.

At this stage, it’s unclear where the prologue and last few pages fit into the story’s obvious main focus, but there are some elements that are a bit confusing when reading the final panel, but I have no doubt that all will become clearer as the series progresses.

Currently being funded via Kickstarter to fund the livery and second issue (the campaign is active as of this writing), the art is solid throughout, with some good action scenes, and plenty of violence and gore to emphasize the danger inherent in the fantasy world in which the story takes place.

You can definitely benefit from the clarity that color provides. As you can see from the pages included here, some color work has already been done.

It’s a very strong start, punctuated by seemingly unrelated scenes, but there’s no doubt that something big is in store to transform this small, character-driven story into an epic fantasy saga on a much larger scale.

Help make the first full-color issue a reality through our crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. Issue #1 is now available to read in full (black and white) on GlobalComix.

Hello! I’m Jason. I write articles for midlifegamergeek.com every day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human-generated content (that’s never been plagiarized or copied through the efforts of other writers), please help us keep this site running by making a donation.

Not only do I not earn any money from my writing here (although I do earn a small commission from affiliate links posted on my page, but as an Amazon Associate I do earn from qualifying purchases from these links), my work sometimes seems to be stolen and repurposed by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

No pressure, of course, but we really appreciate any support you can provide. You can easily support us through Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or the PayPal link.

Thank you very much for your donation. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to read my article. Please remember. This entire article is by Jason Brown and can be found at midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Please support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will not only help me keep the lights on here, but will also help keep my writing dreams alive. However, please understand that there is no pressure. I hope you enjoy reading my article.
