IDW Publishing has announced that Event Horizon: Inferno, the sequel to the 1997 sci-fi horror film, will be released this April. Christian Ward, who wrote the new prequel comic Dark Descent, returns, and artist Rob Carey (Alien: Resistance, The Outsiders) continues. The sequel is set 200 years in the future and follows a billionaire trying to retrieve the title spaceship’s interdimensional technology.

A synopsis provided to Collider reads: “In 2040, the spaceship Event Horizon disappears. Seven years later, it returns possessed by a demonic entity. After killing the rescuers, the front of the ship is blown in half, leaving the front of the ship searching for its heart. A gravity-driven device designed for extradimensional travel. 200 years later, a billionaire brings his private space fleet to the wreckage around Neptune. He has heard about the Event Horizon and is willing to sacrifice anyone. A few of our employees will reveal the secret!”

Director Ward said, “I’m excited to continue the story of Event Horizon. We first explained what happened before the events of the movie, but now we explore what happens after the credits roll. Get ready for more sci-fi, more excitement, and especially more cosmic horror. There are more demons in Hell, and we’re just getting started.”

IDW also shared that they will be reprinting the first four issues of Dark Descent on February 4th (the release date of the fifth and final issue) with new covers by series artist Tristan Jones and colorist Pip Martin. Pre-orders for the new release will be accepted by December 15th. “Fans who missed out will not be able to obtain a physical copy of this horrifying story until the complete paperback edition arrives next summer,” they say. Issue 4 will be in stores on Christmas Eve.

Inferno #1 will be released in April with a cover by Ward, Carey and Rod Reis. You can check out the artwork for the latter two and the final reprint variations of Dark Descent #1-4 below.
