In October, DC and Marvel announced a new Superman/Spider-Man crossover to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Superman and Spider-Man’s first meeting. Today, DC announced details of the creators involved in Superman/Spider-Man #1, which ships in March, and the pairings that will appear in the one-shot backup story.
The new Superman/Spider-Man #1 will retail for $7.99 and feature featured features by Mark Waid and Jorge Jimenez.
When journalists Clark Kent and Peter Parker find themselves following the same story, the conspiracy they uncover could change the world – especially if Brainiac and Doctor Octopus have something to say about it. (And we’re sure of that!) Luckily, our brave newshound is secretly Superman and the amazing Spider-Man. Mark Waid and Jorge Jimenez join forces to bring this clash of reporters-turned-heroes to life in an unforgettable lead story that headlines DC’s Superman/Spider-Man #1.
Wade is a natural choice for this story as he has written both Superman and Spider-Man in the past, and Jimenez is one of DC’s true superstar artists. This creative team is like a slam dunk.
This issue also features seven behind-the-scenes stories:
Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson: Tom King and Jim Lee Jimmy Olsen and Carnage: Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber Superboy and Spider-Man 2099: Sean Murphy Power Girl and the Punisher: Gail Simone and Belen Ortega Superboy Prime and the Symbiote Spider-Man: Christopher Priest and Daniel Sampere The Daily Planet and the Daily Bugle: Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott Pa Kent and Uncle Ben Jeff Lemire and Rafa Sandoval
If you stop reading after reading Jimmy Olsen and Carnage by Fraction and Reaver, I don’t blame you. Because it has to be the craziest combination imaginable for the only creative team capable of making it happen.
In addition to the creative and character teams, DC also announced a preliminary lineup of 22 (well, 22) variant covers for the one-shot. The available cover art and creators are:
Jim Lee, Scott Williams, Alex Sinclair
Daniel Sampere and Tomeu Mory
dave johnson
David Nakayama
Gabriele Dellotto
Mikel Janin
Rafael Albuquerque
Stanley “Artgerm” Lau
Additional variant covers will feature art by David Taraski, Arthur Adams, Chrissy Zullo, Josh Middleton, Scott Kovlish, Olivier Coipel, Adam Hughes, Mitch Gerads, Jeff Spokes, Evan “Doc” Shaner, Steve Lieber, J. Scott Campbell, Clayton Crane, and Rafael Sandoval. The main cover by Jimenez is also available as a foil version. More artists and covers are yet to be announced. At $8.99 each, if you plan on buying all the covers, you might want to start saving money now.
Superman/Spider-Man #1 is the latest corporate crossover between DC and Marvel. Two Batman/Deadpool crossovers were released this year, with the Marvel movie released in September and the DC movie released in November. Last month, the publisher also released two digital-exclusive crossovers, Thor: Shazam and The Flash: Fantastic Four, through their respective streaming comic book services.
After the release of DC’s Batman/Deadpool #1, many retailer anecdotes indicated that the one-shot sold less than its Marvel predecessor, and readers were left with a flurry of confusion over whether the issue was a reprint of an earlier Marvel one-shot or simply a new set of covers for the same story. With DC set to release Superman/Spider-Man #1 first, will the same fate befall Marvel’s release? Time, and vocal retailers, will tell.
Superman/Spider-Man #1 arrives in stores on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
