Valiant, a classic 1950s cartoon character, successfully revived Tulloch in the 90s. Launching the series with a chrome and foil cover (similar to Bloodshot #1, the chrome treatment is applied to the area attached to the cover, rather than the entire cover), bringing the Native American dinosaur hunters into their own shared world.

This issue provides new readers with an in-depth look at who, where, and why Turok is. We follow Turok as he seeks revenge against Monark, a cybernetically enhanced dinosaur with advanced intelligence and a ruthless nature, while providing the necessary explanations.

This is a fast-paced story packed with tons of detail while setting the stage for Turok’s arrival in the Valiant Universe. The cover may hint at the worst excesses of Valiant’s signature chrome-era comics, but Turok #1 is far from an example of style over content, with thoughtful writing and wonderfully detailed artwork.

Although the character would eventually be somewhat mismanaged by Valiant’s new owners, Acclaim, it’s good to see a strong origin story in Valiant for this long-dormant character, even though they brought the character to its widest audience to date through the medium of video games.

It’s also worth noting that in the past, such gimmicky covers almost certainly guaranteed a high price. However, due to major reprints and a lack of interest from collectors over the years, this and many other Valiant comics are now incredibly affordable. Personally, I’m very happy to add the gold leaf Turok #1 to my collection.

Hello! I’m Jason. I write articles for midlifegamergeek.com every day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human-generated content (that’s never been plagiarized or copied through the efforts of other writers), please help us keep this site running by making a donation.

Not only do I not earn any money from my writing here (although I do earn a small commission from affiliate links posted on my page, but as an Amazon Associate I do earn from qualifying purchases from these links), my work sometimes seems to be stolen and repurposed by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure, of course, but we really appreciate any support you can provide. You can easily support us through Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or the PayPal link.

Thank you very much for your donation. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to read my article. Please remember. This entire article is by Jason Brown and can be found at midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Please support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will not only help me keep the lights on here, but will also help keep my writing dream alive. However, please understand that there is no pressure. I hope you enjoy reading my article.
