Marvel Comics has announced that next year’s X-Men reboot, Shadow of Tomorrow, will feature New Mutants member Dani Moonstar’s first solo series. Simply titled “Moonstar,” the five-issue series, written by Ashley Allen (Magik) with art by Edoardo Audino (Astonishing X-Men Infinity Comics), follows a Cheyenne psychic embarking on a mission to recover an ancient weapon.
Moonstar #1 cover by Germán Peralta
Death awaits Dani Moonstar! When an ancient soul-sucking weapon is unleashed, it’s up to Dani to track it down. But this weapon’s formidable wielder won’t make it easy for her. After a recent tragedy, can Dani believe she can save those closest to her, or will her lack of self-confidence lead to more bloodshed?
Allen said, “I’m so excited to be back to tell the next chapter of Dani’s story! She’s such a monumental character who embodies what it means to be a true leader, both in the Marvel Universe and in people’s lives. I can’t believe this is the character’s first standalone series and I can’t wait to show readers what adventures are in store for Dani!”
Audino added, “Working on my first Dani Moonstar standalone series feels great, especially after reading the Magic series that Ashley wrote. This story has everything I want as a reader: magic, combat, and a little romance, so it’s a lot of fun to draw! Plus, I got to do one of my favorite things about comics: designing a brand new villain!”
Moonstar #1 will be released on March 4th and will feature the main cover by Allen’s primary Magick collaborator German Peralta, as well as variants by Joshua “Sway” Swaby, Marcos Martin, and Dani collaborator Bob McLeod. Check them out along with the unpainted interior preview page below.
Meanwhile, the current X-Men event storyline, Age of Revelation, concludes with a special on December 31st, and Shadows of Tomorrow begins the following week with X-Men #23 and Wolverine #14. Allen’s previous series “Magic & Colossus,” which featured new mutants, will be relaunched on February 4th.
