Holding the convention for 16 years is no small feat, and armed with experience and a newly issued permit, MICE, the Massachusetts Independent Comic Expo, is ready to pick up the pace and reach new heights.
New England’s largest gathering of independent cartoonists, indie comics, graphic novels, and unique zines, the expo features an incredible guest list, including appearances by comic legends Scott MacLeod, Raina Telgemeier, N.D. Stevenson, and more.
The main MICE event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, December 6th and 7th, at the Boston University Fuller Building, 808 Commonwealth Avenue, Brookline. A post-show presentation by McLeod and Telgemeier will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, December 7th at the Tsai Performance Center, 685 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston.
Since its founding in 2010, MICE is New England’s largest and longest-running independent comic festival, bringing together a vibrant community to celebrate creativity and self-expression. The event offers something for everyone, from panel discussions and workshops to a diverse marketplace featuring over 200 independent comic creators.
MICE says:
“MICE is proud to have a majority of New England-based creators, with 40 percent of all creators hailing from Massachusetts. Whether you’re an aspiring artist or a seasoned creator, MICE is a place where you can explore the art form and connect with a community of like-minded people. Admission is free and open to all ages.”
MICE offers a variety of family-friendly activities, including an all-day Maker Space, live drawing demonstrations, and interactive workshops designed for all skill levels. Beginners can learn the basics of comics, and veteran creators can hone their skills. Workshops will cover topics such as how to write jokes, design characters, construct fantasy settings, and experiment with new materials and techniques. Panels feature relevant and engaging themes such as comics, activities, memoirs, and even comics centered around talking animals.
MICE brings together an energetic group of featured guests who showcase the breadth and creativity of independent comics.
