Back in 1966, Black Panther made his debut in the pages of Fantastic Four #52. Since then, there’s no denying that the character has had a huge impact on pop culture and the world at large, epitomized by the 2018 blockbuster and actor Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of the King of Wakanda. This February, Marvel Comics will pay homage to the groundbreaking hero with a special Black Panther commemorative one-shot. This groundbreaking oversized one-shot celebrates 60 years of T’Challa and Wakanda with brand new and thrilling stories from fan-favorite writers, artists, and those who helped define Black Panther’s legacy.
Here are some of the stories fans can look forward to.
Writer Evan Narcisse (Wakanda, Sam Wilson: Captain America) and artist George Jeanty (Star Wars: Mace Windu) bring back the former Black Panther, Caspar Cole! In this framed story, join Cole in his search for Wakanda’s exiled king, and along the way learn about T’Challa’s never-before-told adventures. Cole also visits the former Queen of Wakanda in a story by acclaimed Storm author Murewa Ayodele and rising star artist Eder Messias (Sam Wilson: Captain America). Storm shares intimate memories of her time at T’Challa’s side. At that time, their love was strong enough to overcome any threat. Cody Ziggler (Miles Morales: Spider-Man) teams up with veteran Black Panther artist Alisa E. Martinez to bring the Black Panther and Blue Marvel team-up to life! Dr. Adam Brashear reflects on their time together in Ultimate and reveals what T’Challa taught him about strength and leadership. Superstar author Christopher Priest returns to the groundbreaking Black Panther, the extraordinary encounter between T’Challa and Magneto. The story takes place during the time when the Master of Magnetism ruled the African country of Genosha.
Black Panther’s 60th anniversary coincides with an exciting new status quo for the character. The king of Wakanda is currently seeking to unite his kingdom on both Earth and the stars in Black Panther: Intergalactic, a four-issue limited series from Victor La Vallee and Stefano Nessi that debuts next month. Additionally, Black Panther will be teaming up with various heroes throughout February in a new line of variant covers by Marvel’s Stormbreaker. Stay tuned for announcements in the coming weeks!
The Black Panther Anniversary Special features a cover by Mateusz Manhanini and will be released on February 11, 2026.
