Audiences are counting down the days until Rob Liefeld makes his long-awaited return to YUNGBLUD. If you need proof, look no further than today’s announcement that YUNGBLUD #1 is already sold out at the distribution level and will be back in press before fans get their copies next week.
In a statement, Image Comics urged fans to contact their local comic book store to pre-order and promised to quickly put this week’s issue back into print to meet reorder demand and fill the supply gap for retailers.
Longtime Liefeld fans will definitely want a copy of the second printing cover, as it pays homage to Liefeld’s own New Mutants #98, one of the most iconic covers of the ’90s. This is the comic where Deadpool, Gideon, and Domino first appear. The new cover features new YUNGBLUD characters Vandel, Xerxes, and Prusimkus replacing the trio, and Die Hard, Shaft, Vogue, and Badrock replacing Cable, Cannonball, Bun Bun, and Sunspot.
“Now is a time for gratitude,” Liefeld said in a statement. “Thank you to the YUNGBLUD fans who have roared with enthusiasm. Thank you to all of our retail partners who have stepped up with their support. Thank you to the comic book stores who are the backbone of our market and we rely on them to reach the masses. And we must express our gratitude to everyone at Image Comics for their guidance and enthusiasm. Enjoy this comic! The road to YUNGBLUD #100 starts here!”
This YUNGBLUD launch features more than a dozen variant covers for fans to get excited about, a manga-inspired black and white edition, 27 retail exclusives, 30 epic team-up covers, and plenty of variations with the must-have incentive ratio. Remember when things were simpler and you just put this in a bag and put trading cards inside? How quirky!
The original Youngblood #1 marked the Image Revolution’s first salvo and remains one of the best-selling independent comics of all time, selling over 1 million copies. The restart marks the first time in nearly a decade that Liefeld will be reunited with one of the assets that defined his career.
“It’s great to be able to find comfort in the characters that I created and started a movement,” Liefeld said when announcing the series. “They have so much history. I love YUNGBLUD so much. These characters are my absolute passion.”
The first printing of Youngblood (2025) #1 will be available in comic book shops on Wednesday, November 12th.
