Mad Cave Studios has announced Maverick, a new YA publisher graphic novel. The film follows a group of “content kids” (children who grew up in front of social media cameras) through their teenage years. Today, The Beat has all the details about this timely new release titled “I Didn’t Ask for This.”
This timely read comes from Next Generation Indie Book Award-winning author Jennie Wood, GLAAD Award-winning illustrator Josh Cornillon, colorist Michael Wiggam, and letterer Charles Pritchett. Although this story is fictional, it is based on the real-life experiences of child influencers who have become the subject of heated online debates and legal battles in the age of social media’s invasive oversharing.
Here’s the full synopsis:
How would you feel if your entire life was online, against your will, if everyone knew about your potty training, your first breakup, and even your coming out story? “I Didn’t Ask For This” follows the members of Not Your Baby Anymore, a group of kids whose parents are social media influencers and have shared their entire lives online. The group forms a chosen family as each member struggles to find their way out of a life and fame they neither asked nor desired.

“Having grown up in a small town where everyone knew my business and with a mother who didn’t respect my boundaries, I deeply empathize with the members of Not Your Baby Anymore and their need for privacy and self-definition,” Wood said in a statement.
“Like Daisy in ‘This Isn’t What I Asked for,’ I found my way through music and a chosen family while living in Chicago,” Wood continued. “I hope this story gives readers the courage to continue carving out their own path. It may be a turbulent journey at times, but it is a journey that leads you to your own people and your place in the world.”
Cornyon added, “I can’t wait for young readers to pick up This Isn’t Asked and see the story of Daisy and her friends learning the importance of assertiveness and voice for themselves. I can’t wait for young readers to pick up This Isn’t Asked for and see the story of how Daisy and her friends learn the importance of assertiveness and voice for themselves. I hope they feel the passion and dedication they had to raise their voices and learn that their voices matter too. This story is ultimately about the value of building community, something we all need more of in this society during turbulent times. ”
I’m not asking. It will be available everywhere books are sold on April 14, 2026, and at your local comic shop on April 15, 2026. Pre-orders are available now.
