Blumhouse Productions plans to adapt Something Is Killing the Children into a feature film and adult animated series.

Blumhouse plans to develop both a live-action feature film and an adult animated series. Tynion will serve as scriptwriter and executive producer for the animated series, with Del Edera serving as co-executive producer and visual development consultant.

boom! The studio’s Stephen Christie and Tynion will produce the feature film, with Adam Yoelin and Mette Nokjaer serving as executive producers.

First published by BOOM! In 2019, this comic sold over 5 million copies worldwide and received critical acclaim. Series creator James Tynion IV won the Eisner Award for Best Original Screenplay for the third year in a row (2021-2023).

“‘Something Is Killing the Children’ is the comic that changed my life and career forever,” Tynion said. “It was vitally important that we find a partner who understood the potential of Erica Slaughter and the world that Werther dell’Edera and I were building. And we found that partner in Jason Blum. No one understands horror like Blumhouse, and I can’t wait for the world to see what we’ve all planned together.”

Written by Tynion and illustrated by Dell’Edera, SiKtC is set in a world where only children can see monsters. Erika Slaughter, a monster hunter for a secret organization, disobeys orders to protect a boy after a tragic incident in Wisconsin.

“When the children of Archer’s Peak begin to go missing, everything seems hopeless. Most of the children never return, but those that do have horrifying stories – improbable stories about terrifying creatures who live in the shadows. The only hope to find and eliminate the threat is the arrival of a mysterious stranger who believes in the children and claims to see what they see. Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters.”

“It’s easy to see why audiences and critics alike praised ‘Something’s Killing the Children,'” said Jason Blum, CEO and founder of Blumhouse. “James and Welser’s comic series explores our deepest fears, transports us into a fascinating world, and introduces us to Erica Slaughter, the ass-kicking hero we all want to fight the monsters that lurk in the dark.”

The House of Massacre spin-off explores the organization and sold over 500,000 copies in its first edition, making it the top-selling original comic debut of the century.

Developing something with Blumhouse is a milestone for BOOM! “In this deal, Jason Blum has shown a true commitment to putting James and Werther’s vision first, and that means everything to us,” Christie said. We’ve been on this journey with them since the first issue, and now partnering with Blumhouse to bring their world to film and television feels like the culmination of years of trust in this story. ”
