Ireland’s Conman Curly is running away from the supernatural curse and appears to continue to find herself in increasingly dangerous situations.
With this volume alone he must contest vicious encounters with supernatural creatures with the help of racist cannibalism, unpleasant and curious aliens, and recently widowed military veteran Kazu.
Creator Lasse Wennerstrand’s Carly is not the most likable character, but his malicious antics have certain nasty charms. In my opinion, the real star of the show is Kazu. The Little China-esque vibe has almost a major problem with the adventures she appears, and while Carly believes he is the hero of the story, he is actually the much more capable Kickas Kazu’s sidekick.
The art style suggests a much lighter and comedic tone, but this comic is much darker than it looks. That being said, Carly herself is constantly cracking wisely, with plenty of humorous moments to keep things from getting too harsh.
There were lots of really fun movie references and I especially enjoyed the original silent issue. Here, Curly’s encounter with the night creature (and his interaction with Kaz) is cleverly told through symbols and other iconography that are not fully interactive.
This volume also features fantastically detailed lore, in the style of a grimoire within the universe, between the problems written by Da Holmes. Finally, there are behind the scenes material and concept art, as well as some alternative take on curls by various artists within this packed page of volume.
This first story features world-building, fun, and plenty of mental senses, and when the subject cursed with the cursed con artist himself, it keeps creator Lasse Wennerstrand’s cartoonish art style light enough to sleep well at night. Unlike poor curly hair, definitely!

Hello! I’m Jason and I write for midlifegamergeek.com every day. If you’re interested in supporting regular, original human-generated content (which has never been plagiarized or copied from the hard work of other authors), you can keep this site up and running.
Not only can I not earn money from writing here (I might earn a small fee from affiliate links posted on the page, but as an Amazon associate I make money from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work is sometimes stolen and reused by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
