Author/artist Bruno Stahl will launch his first crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter this week. The preface to Pat Mills, Felipe Sobreiro cover and print colours, and Boom Bandits, edited by Odette Schofield, is a cyberpunk satire saga inspired in part by Mad Max: Fury Road.
Here’s an overview:
The battle for technical advantage has left the world in abandoned. When the elite fled to their fortified city of Metusland, where genetic enhancement granted them an indefinite life, the surviving wasteland youth called “Guttersnipes,” became a rebellious force. To crush this rebellion, the ruler of Methusand unleashed the Youthanisers. It is designed to line up young people. In this dystopian warzone, young rebels Freydunk and Pixie find themselves running, chased by the most frightening young people. But as they unearthed relics of the years, the sparks of revolution ignite and set the stage for an all-out battle with the oppressive elite.

“Boom Bandits officially began as a lockdown project, but its roots returned to the early 2000s. At the time, it was fresh for an elderly millennial who graduated from art school, so we couldn’t check the news without stumbling through another article declaring the lazy, most qualified and most capable generation in history,” Stahl said.
“Apparently, all our financial struggles are self-harm, if we stop whining and work hard as Boomer did, cough, cough – if we can afford something good too, Boom Bandits is my answer,” he continued.
“Visually, I wanted to embody the raw, filterless energy of a real comic book. The layout of the pages, the desperate pace – everything should be unmistakable. The Boom Bandits were pure and disorderly cartoons. “Like Fury Road, the Boom Bandits rely on momentum, not on expositions. There’s no clunky dialogue. The captions don’t breed plots. Would I succeed? Because it’s the reader to decide.”
Pat Mills, who wrote the introduction, said, “The art is wonderfully loose and dynamic. The gang scene is out of this world. And I’m very jealous of dealing with youth dealing with the problems of young people’s invasion. A great name for the villain!
Boom Bandits will be released on Kickstarter on Thursday, September 25th, and you can sign up to be notified when it is released.
