Despite certain factions on the internet you believe, the new Superman film by writer/director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn has achieved a clear success. In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Gunn said he has finished his treatment for the upcoming teasing article from Superman’s Saga, where he will soon be in production. Sure enough, Gunn took him to social media to post images drawn by DC Publishing and comic legend Jim Lee, and announced that a sequel to Superman, entitled Man of Tomorrow, will arrive on July 9, 2027.
Additionally, actor David Corenswett, who plays the honorable character, posted an announcement with images drawn by Jorge Zimenez, as Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Holt posted an image drawn by Mitch Gerad. All art images depict Superman and Luthor as Luthor sporting the iconic green and purple battle armor, so it’s fascinating to assume that Luthor will take Superman to himself, rather than simply using an Ultraman Proxy.
The fact that this is getting a sequel to Superman soon is pretty impressive. Typically, a minimum of three years is expected for a sequel to a high-quality superhero movie. But given Gunn’s track record and his ability to produce high quality work with such a quick turnaround, there’s no doubt that he’s pulling out all the stops. His approach is to emphasize quality over quantity, as opposed to what has fallen upon Marvel Studios in recent years.
Before the Superman Summer returns, next year will be Supergirl Summer, with actress Millie Alcock playing the Mighty Maiden in the theater where she plays her own solo film on June 26, 2026. Plus, there’s an upcoming lantern television series and a clayface film starring Tom Rice Harry, who’s already filming Begun. And of course, we must not forget the dynamic duo animation feature. While certain projects, such as the Waller Television series and Authority movies, may be stagnant, once everything is said and done, the future looks brighter for the new directions of DC Studios.
