Sonic the Hedgehog #81 kicks off at the Grand Carnival. There, chaos emeralds are shown on mask balls. There will be a Sonic and a tail on the site. Tail has a plan and Sonic is totally bored. Soon you will see Shadows and Rouge around. And as usual, it lie down quickly!
After the group of bright stars enters, things go from exciting to true crime, creating distractions and chasing. It’s a fun sequence that takes up much of the problem, with Rouge and Shadow working together to avoid Sonic and Tail getting a chaotic emerald. It works for comics like all ages, but uses the usual “should team up, not fight” trope.
Writer Evan Stanley and artist Min Ho Kim keep chasing you with horrifying moments for your tail. It all leads to a cliffhanger you keep guessing, and has a big conflict promise.

When it comes to character personalities, the team does a great job. The tail has a positive effect on Sonic, who has a little attitude on his shoulders and a big tip. Shadows are calm and collected, but Sonic goes under his skin, while Rouge has many attitudes and styles. You can see that all these characters have plenty of history, but they can quickly and easily make use of the dynamics.
Kim’s art is very fun with a cartoonish style that suits these characters. The chase sequence takes the cake for entertainment value, when it comes to visuals with cool movements and lots of big emotions. When Rouge lands on a popcorn bender cart, you will not only feel it, but also the roots of the tail that gave her the taste of her own medicine.
For new readers, there is a short six-panel “story” that opens up this issue, but we could use a little more about the storied history of some of these characters. As I said above, it’s not difficult to understand dynamics, but some texts may have come a long way to make me feel like I haven’t missed it. Again, that’s the purpose of the trade paperback and the bag issue!
