Spawn: Dark Age made the long-awaited comeback this October in the form of a brand new 6th issue miniseries from Liam Sharp (Wonder Woman, Starhenge), courtesy of Image Comics and Todd McFarlane Productions. To celebrate the release, the first issue has four covers. The two are impressive 1:50 incentives by Sharp, Blank Sketch Variant and Ryan Brown.

Sharp doesn’t just write series. He also deals in ink and colour, set in readers with Kings, Gods and demon spawns against the turbulent times of post-Roman England.

“Back to Spawn: The Dark Ages were joy,” Sharp said. “My goal was to create something fresh and accessible without having readers spawned or prior knowledge of historical periods. I wanted to regain that roots in the 5th century when folk tales and pagan traditions declined and Christianity began to rule. Aurelianus was a kind of prototype.

At the heart of the story is a demon spawn and elking ullegrave, the master of wild hunting. The Saxons are pushed in from the east, Picts threaten in the north, and the Hebanians attacked from the west, the newly crowned King Aurelian Ambrosius must seek out this dark figure and strike dangerous bargains to save his territory. But can a Christian king really trust erlking?

Todd MacFarlane, Spawn creator and Image Comics president, added: “I’ve been waiting for a long time to get Liam back in this book. His vision in the Dark Ages surprised me decades ago. Fans ultimately couldn’t see him return.

Spawn: Dark Age #1 arrives on Wednesday, October 8th. The retailer’s final order cut-off is Monday, September 15th. The variants are:

Liam Sharp Cover A – Month Code: 0825IM0252

Cover B Blank Sketch Variant – Moon Code: 0825IM0253

Covering C Virgin Variant by Liam Sharp – Moon Code: 0825IM0254

Cover D 1:50 Incentive Variants by Ryan Brown – Moon Code: 0825IM0255

This issue is available digitally on Amazon Kindle, Apple Books and Google Play.
