Horror, drugs and comics will clash this fall, but have drugs and comics been far more apart than ever? AMC+ and Shudder have announced season 2 of Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, the all-star spinoff of the hit horror drug competition.
Hosted by Dracmorda and Swanthula Boulet, the show returns contestants through challenges that fuse horror, sci-fi and fantasy with high conceptual drug art. But comic fans will have more reasons to tune this season. McFarlane is taking part as a guest judge and places emphasis on design, performance and raw creativity. It is clearly suitable for artists who have helped redefine superhero visuals and incorporate image comics into creative powerhouses. Orlando, meanwhile, appears as a special guest, bringing the perspective of a writer known for pushing genre boundaries and spotlighting alienated voices in comics.
AIPT is no stranger to these comic creators and Boulet Brothers. Because all three were guests on the AIPT Comics Podcast. You can listen to Boulet Brother episodes here and McFarlane here. Orlando has earned many guests.
The Boulet Brothers teased a bigger, darker, and more relentless season than ever, packed with shocking twists and horror fuel sights. The contestants fight through the show’s infamous pillars of filth, horror and glamour, all fighting for the $100,000 grand prize, a world tour headlining spot, and the title of “Queen of the Underworld.” Given how strong Titan’s first season is, I’m sure this will be an age season.
Boulet Brothers took over heavy metal magazine in 2021, and Steve Orlando is also involved in the project, so he’s not a comic’s stranger either.
For comic readers, seeing creators like MacFarlane and Orlando cross this horror drug celebration highlights how deeply the comic has and is influenced by deeper pop culture.
