Marvel Comics marks the Native American heritage month by highlighting Echo, one of the most well-known native heroes. The character, Cheyenne and the Mexican American Warrior, are best known as members of Black Eyed Pea, with his special Marvel voice co-written by Echo: Seeker of Truth, a special Marvel voice, Jimmy “Taboo” Gomez. The duo previously worked on echo in the 2023 Daredevil & Echo Miniseries, and is also behind the ultimate Hawkeye one-shot of the upcoming. Artist Jim Terry brings their stories back to life with Echo co-creator David Mack, who contributes an impressive cover.

This issue follows Echo in Los Angeles, where she competes to protect her family from a dangerous new threat. Along the way, the former Avenger uncovers an astonishing secret about her legacy, unleashing a mysterious new power.

In Truth Seeker, Echo’s journey begins when her cousin disappears in Los Angeles. Her search leads her to Wisteria Meadows. Wisteria Meadows is a seemingly pastoral wellness retreat, hiding an ominous secret. When she investigates a series of loss disappearances linked to the cult, Echo is forced to confront the truth about herself that will change her forever. But behind Wisteria Meadows is hiding in a faceless villain with more dangerous plans than she could have imagined.

In the case of Taboo, revisiting the characters is personal and powerful. “As a proud Native American/Mexican storyteller, having a platform to collaborate on resonating superheroes in Marvel’s universe is something I call a ‘good medicine’ and it’s something I need to inspire readers,” he said. “Celebrating the beauty of Echo as our heroes is like drawing a vibrant mural in a comic book landscape.”

B. Earl reflected the excitement and described the story as mythical and deeply personal. “When our editors asked us to develop a new power for her, we made it to build it into our own mythical language that we had previously revealed,” he explained. “For me, this story is also a homage to LA. I was born and raised on the East Coast, but I always dreamed of making a path to Hollywood.

In addition to the Mac cover, the issue features variant covers by Carmen Carnero and Maria Wolf. Fans can reserve Echo: Seeker of Truth #1 at their local comic shop.
