Last month marked the debut of brand new Captain America from Eisner nominated author Chip Zudarski and superstar artist Valerio City. Hailed as one of Marvel’s strongest releases, the series is set with a five-part story shortly after Steve Rogers first awakens from the ice and records his earliest showdown with Doctor Doom. The story then advances in December with publication #6, kicking off the current arc picking up in the aftermath of Doom’s downfall in one world under Doom. Participating in the arts mission for Schiti will be Frank Alpisser and Delio Diaz, who will make their debut at the fateful Marvel in 2099 later this month.
This new ARC presents four fresh characters representing the United Nations Security Council country: Captain Kingdom (UK), Captain France (France), Red Widow (Russia), and Star (China). Collectively called “United Captains,” they unite with the Cap to stabilize Latoberia. However, as they permeate volatile high-tech countries, their hidden motives begin to emerge. This story solidifies Cap’s role in shaping the current Marvel universe and serves as a key lead-in to next year’s major events.

A world without destiny!
With Doom gone, Latveria is on the edge of the Civil War. Captain America is being dispatched to protect innocent people and reveal rumors of dangerous stockpiles. However, the UN Security Council escalates the issue by sending its “loyal super soldiers.” As rival factions clash and United captains pursue their own agenda, Cap must ask himself whether Latveria’s peace is really what his allies want.
“I love the idea of “official” superheroes that work within the system,” Zdarsky told ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview. “It felt like there was a kind of UN representative of the Security Council member states to deal with situations like Latveria. So United’s captain came from a team that is not a team and may have their own agenda.”
Celebrated with the X-Men title and the design of the gods, City brings a creative touch to the new era of Cap. Each of these designs is featured in a special variant cover for the #6-9 issue.
“One of my favorite things about my job is designing new characters,” City said. “It’s always been my great hobby. Even before I became an expert! I tried to incorporate traditional symbols from the country of origin of the new captain into their uniforms.
Marvel has revealed the main cover, the Foil variant by Ivan Tao, and the City design sheet for the new Captain. Fans can add Captain America to their pull list at their local comic shop.
