This review contains spoilers for My Death Flag and there are no signs of an end. In exchange for a review I received a free copy from one book of peace.
My Death Flag shows no signs of an end, based on the story of Imura on the Musaku Roof with character design by Atiki. One Peace Book released its first volume on June 17, 2025.
The series follows Hirasawa, a gamer who wakes up with the body of Harold Stokes, the infamous villain of his favorite game, Brave Hearts. Stranded in a tragic flashback scene where he can’t control his actions, Kazuki must find a way to survive his fate, sealed by countless “death flags.” He wants to talk and act differently, but Harold’s body betrays him. His sharp tongue continues to earn him “points of hatred.” Kazuki wonders if he should give up and accept death, and whether he will return to his world.
Norman, the family butler, notices that Harold’s behavior is changing. Despite his harsh words and actions, Harold now shows a faint sense of care for his people, igniting Norman’s hope that the young heir might reform the Stokes family.
Harold practices magic. He is the same magic that once persuaded his parents to imprison them, rather than immediately execute them. On the day of her “execution” Harold instead offers her a choice: death or escape. She runs away and Norman quietly celebrates a life span, but Harold takes no pride in it.
After thinking he had deceived his parents and committed executions, Harold turns his attention to improving the agriculture of the territory. He develops “life” potions to boost crop growth and persuades skeptical agricultural inspectors to join his cause.
Then there will be an arranged marriage plan. Harold’s father announces that he will marry Erica for her honorable pedigree. Kazuki seizes this opportunity and supports the major parties from the shadows. He puts Erica in an envelope to trouble people by solving Miasma’s problems, but she refuses and is still mad at him by his previous remarks. It remains unclear whether her family will accept his help, and the volume closes when Erika visits him.
Despite receiving a free review copy from one Peace book, my death flag shows that it is not a cartoon sign that I would pick up in the store. The red, impressive covers attracted me, and the art kept me hooked.
I love the “villain” death flag story, so even if this starred male villains, that rope still works for me. My only small criticism is that people seem to accept that they can change Harold’s character a little more easily. Given his history of cruelty, skepticism from others would feel more realistic, but I like how people believe that positive change is recognized and trustworthy.
I laughed loudly in the self-righteous phrase “My day off today.” | PC: Hayame Kawachi
The storytelling was strong, the art was amazing, and the faces of the comedy side characters (see above) made me laugh out loud. I recommend it for teens, but there is no age limit for good stories, so I think it’s fun for people from advanced elementary school to 100 years old. Volume 2 arrived on December 9th, 2025, but I can’t wait.
My Death Flag shows no signs of closing the retailer for $12.95 and is available for purchase on Amazon.
