The Week’s Best Comics: August 14, 2025
#5: Predator kills Marvel Universe #1
“Pedator Kills the Marvel Universe” #1 is a savage start with a high body count
Predator Kill the Marvel Universe #1 is a brutal and thrilling opening chapter that no one spares, combining a massive hit-level view with a smart connection to Marvel’s universe. Benjamin Percy swings the fence around and Marcelo Ferreira’s art pushes gore and tension to the limits, making this debut a silly, unforgettable ride.

#4: Captain Planet and Planetiers #3
“Captain Planet and Planetiers” #3 builds teams against impossible odds
This issue is a fun and fascinating tale of the power of teamwork and friendship over evil, as we see Planetya succeeding in defeating Duke Nukem without the help of Captain Planet. Also get the ending of the cliffhanger where one of the planetars is presented with offers that could lead to team betrayal and their mission if accepted. The ending is waiting for readers in anticipation of the next question. Overall, Captain Planet and Planetiers #3 are smartly written questions about clever plots, tight pacing, and inspiring artwork that attracts readers and drives the plot forward. With this creative team at the helm, Captain Planet is off to a promising start with rivets.

#3: Bug Wars #6
“Bug Wars” #6 ends with a bittersweet note with hints for upcoming stories
Bug Wars #6 brings a bloody, moving end to the first act of the story, hinting at more. Aaron and Asler created something really special here. I encourage readers to check it out. If you’re a fan of what Aaron did with Thor, the teenage mutant ninja turtles, or absolute Superman, you’ll need to pick up this comic. If you love fantasy, you need to see the world that Asler has brought to life. If you’re really looking for a title that will shake up your pull list, this should definitely be on your radar.

#2: Supergirl #4
“Supergirl” #4 captures the girl in the heart of steel perfectly
Overall, Supergirl #4 continues to be a fun comic to read. Campbell not only understands the characters she works with and the rich history that comes with her, but she also loves and embraces everything about Kara. Similarly, despite the construction of plot thread issue #4 that Campbell has established since Comic’s launch, standalone issues are also well read. This keeps the comic’s new reader friendly, as tempting new readers to pick up both previous and future issues.

#1: Transformers #23
“Transformers” #23 is the master stroke of your choice
Transformers #23 is my favorite issue for the entire run. I’m not objective about this. It is completely speaking to the deep personal feelings I feel about my life and resonate with emotions that resonate with them, and not everyone understands to that extent. It’s pulled so badly that I can’t do my fair job as a critic here. It’s simply amazing. Read it for yourself – this is a story that reminds us why this character means so much to all of us, why we love him, and why it’s best to be kind and never satisfied.
