Eisner Award-winning creator Scotty Young posted on social media that he needed to make changes before releasing a previously released cover of Deadpool/Batman #1. “Find the difference. I love Legal! Deadpool/Batman #1 Comic Shop Shelf Anywhere September 24th!” Posted Young on August 11th.
Young is unclear as to why he requested a change of Bat Signal in the background or who requested it, but the most likely reason is that DC lawyers requested half of Deadpool and half Batman logos. As one commenter said, “We have to give them both equal bills! The outrageous thing going back to Superman and Spider-Man, they have to be the same size in the first Marvel/DC crossover!” Frandiggz responded to Young’s post about the change.
That makes sense as it matches the Insignia Mashup variant of Deadpool/Batman #1.

The original cover looked very similar to the Deadpool logo.
Despite this being the most logical reason, ScreenRant and elsewhere reported that the reason for the change was because the cover was a “pokemon homage.”
“Marvel and DC had to unlock the Pokemon reference from the upcoming Batman/Deadpool crossover variant cover. Artist Scotty Young’s series of cover art initially featured a visual cry to the iconic Pokemon franchise.”

But that doesn’t seem like that.
…Please wait a minute. my god!
Young later dispelled the rumors when he commented on the original post.
Marvel will publish Deadpool/Batman #1 on September 24th, and DC will be releasing Batman/Deadpool in November. These two books were part of the larger crossover that was first teased in Comics Pro ’25, and were later confirmed in SDCC ’25. And Marvel and DC crossovers are always… legal scrutiny is DEFCON 1, and equal expression is the most important thing. You have to catch everything!
As previously reported in Beat, there is also a backup story in Deadpool/Batman #1.
In addition to the Mouth and Caped Crusades major crossovers written by Zebwells and drawn by Greg Capro, Deadpool/Batman One-Shot features backup stories from Kevin Smith and Adam Kubert, Jeff the Land Shark, Kelly Thompson and Captain and the Captain and the Captain and the Americas, Jeff the Land Shark, Adam Kubert, and Adam Kubert, among others. Dodson, Rocket Raccoon, Green Lantern, Al Ewing and Dyke Luann, Wolverine (old man Logan) and Batman (the Dark Knight is returning) are Frank Miller.
(Thanks to Avery and Ollie Kaplan for the additional detective work.)
