Before America’s 250th anniversary, Marvel announced 1776. This is a limited series of five islands that arrived this November, with Marvel’s Superheroes travelling back in time to join the founders of the American Revolution. Kew Hamilton Reference.
The series, which was released to retailers last month in a San Diego comic scam, is a story about J. Written by Michael Straczynski and depicted by superstar artist Ron Lim and acclaimed artist Shawn Damien Hill. The main cover is drawn by Pete Woods and Variant cover from their debut issue, and features many of the talents of superstars such as Joe Quesada, Paulo Sicailla and Stee Roud. Plus, there’s a variant cover from Phil Jimenez paying homage to the Obama issue Amazing Spider-Man #583.
According to an official press release, the series “membranes superhero storytelling with the innovative American past, so these heroes, yesterday and today, must remain pivotal moments unharmed to protect both American heritage and their own existence!”
I refrain from personal political discourse, but I am sure there are plenty of other (probably recent) points in American history where interventions from Marvel superheroes can be used.
Details of the official press release below:
A gathering of innovative warriors!
A disaster arises when mystical powers dare to tamper with the sacred threads of history. Captain America and his terrifying Marvel Heroes team jump into action! Their mission? To protect the establishment of the United States! These brave heroes hang on balance at the dawn of revolution, because they must sail through the dangerous waters of the past to ensure an immature future.
Regarding what he was excited to write this unique story, Straczynski said, “One of the things I like about the Marvel universe is that it happens in the real world, in our world. It’s New York, or Chicago, not in an imaginary place, but in our history. When so many of the American discourse became factions, it’s a good time to see where this started and what it means today.”
