On Saturday at San Diego Comics-CON 2025, the “Jim Lee & Friends” panel will discuss Lee’s lack of guests announced on this panel, as he is surprised. Last year, Todd McFarlane and Greg Capro appeared to have announced Batman Spawn, while Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson announced all-in.
This year, Lee thanked his fans (DC Comics SVP and General Manager) and public relations officer Kelly Williams. He screams out his daughter and her new husband into the audience, then brings in his first guest, writer Tom King, daughter of Wonder Woman and the current writer of Trinity.
Framing this part of the panel around the past, present and future, Lee tells the story of taking a USO tour several years ago, creating a way for him and the king to get to know each other better, wearing this protective vest and doing MP training with the dog on the base where he has to overtake one of the dogs on the truck. They show Lee a funny picture of the dog catching up.

They then discuss Wonder Woman’s current arc. There, she faces the old Wonder Woman villain, the Maus Man, and discusses how the story resonates with current events as the story takes over the island to become its dictator.
King said, “She’s against what holds us back. She’s more interested in freedom and letting us go, and that’s the purpose of the series. It’s about her as someone who opposes the system that opposes us.”
Lee then brings out Bilkis Evely and Masteus Lopez to talk about Supergirl. They delve into how King and Evely collaborated in the comic series, and showcase the book’s artwork in which Lee, the story’s POV girl character, stands outside a huge, gorgeous door. They use this to talk about how they cooperated with Evely’s art from King’s script. King jokingly talks about how sparse some of his explanations are, and how surprised he was by the art that attracted evelly from it.

Lee shines about her art and asks about her artistic influence.
“When I studied for the manga, my teacher showed me the pages of Alex Raymond from Flash Garden. These lines, beautiful lines, they are so perfect, everything. Speaking to Lopez in Portuguese, she also mentions other artists, including Hal Foster. She and the colorist Lopez are life partners and collaborators.
Lee praises Lopez. “I love the color of Mateus because it’s like a rainbow colour, but doesn’t feel like a child’s book. It captures the senses of outer space and other worlds.
Lee moves the conversation forward to explain how they first met in London earlier this year during a trip to the set of Supergirls. Talking how the book evolved from a humble beginning to a major film adaptation, Lee welcomes James Gunn directly to the panel and cheers from the crowd.
Gunn complements evely, and how their art and its beauty make him emotional and touch him deeply, and how it connects him with his love for comic art from the past. He says he couldn’t have made Superman without the comic creator. He said, “What movie inspired Superman? Ah, that’s… you know, are you doing donor movies? And I’m not, it’s not. It’s cartoon, do you know? It’s a Superman of all seasons.

The conversation delves into Gunn and Lee’s shared hometown and how they both became comic book fans, Superman: He’s seen the movie in the same cinema, and eventually led DC Comics and DC Studios decades later. Cancer will be debating how his upbringing and how comic books helped him during the rough period of his childhood. Also, attending a comic convention with his father is one of his most precious memories. The nature of reading a superhero comic and getting into the middle of things is one of the best parts of a reading comic. Gunn talks about how he wants to bring that feeling to Superman, along with all the elements of his age, silver and bronze.
Lee, like Q-Tips, decided to give the audience a book of definitive history slipcases after asking for a very random item in return. Lee highlights Gunn’s practice of creating Spotify playlists of film characters, and highlights how music is essential to Gunn’s work.
The panel will discuss Superman’s return to Fortnite for a new in-game event that begins on August 2nd. Gunn also returned to the game in August, and is debating how cool it is to watch Fortnite’s The Ertific and the engineer.
During SDCC 2025, Jim Lee and Matt’s Fractions on Jim Lee and Friends Panel (Batman Mask)
After Gunn, Evely, Lopez and King leave the stage, Lee introduces his final guest, Batman new writer Matt Fraction. The percentage starts with celebrating Jorge Zimenez’s incredible artwork and designs in the title.
Lee asks how Rob Levin (Editor of the Batman Group) and Marie Javins (Editor-in-Chief) appeared in the title in the way they reached out to him, and asks if he has any ideas about Batman. He talks about Batman’s goals in a slightly different way than he did earlier in the day on the DC Gotham City panel.
Here, he says he wants to focus on the fight against Bruce Wayne’s life and Batman’s life, if there’s a reason for Bruce to be happy enough to stop becoming Batman. “What happens to the night Bruce Wayne thinks, ‘maybe there’s no need to go out tonight’? “Yes, that’s devastating.
He talks about bringing Batman back into his grey and blue suit and that is the new day in Gotham City, with a big, bright sky and no rain. And how does it differ from Iron Man in terms of how Bruce is using his technology, as well as not only is it focused on cool new batman gadgets and the latest suits technology.
The panel discusses a new hardcover from Superman mate Jimmy Olsen, featuring a homage cover to Superman vs. Muhammad Ali comic.
