At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, DC launched a massive celebration of 100 years of publication of the world’s largest superhero, kicking a decade-long tribute to the company’s legacy. This year’s focus was the golden age of comics that illuminated the spotlight between 1935 and 1945, but the DC booth offered more than a walkdown memory lane.
Fans were treated to a free copy of the retro style Daily Planet newspaper filled with classic ads from DC’s archives. It doubled as a memorial and autograph book with famous creators such as Jim Lee, Tom King, Matt Fraction, Scott Snyder, Jeff Loeb and Mark Wade, among others, including posters, comics, and the newspaper itself. The conversation at the booth was bustling with enthusiasm about the current Superman film and the return of Peacemaker. The creative team behind Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow received a warm welcome from fans, excited for the upcoming Supergirl movie.
The booth featured a cross-promotion of SDCC-only products and activities, with Fortnite, Progressive, Milk-Bone® and DC Worlds collisions. Fortnite players participated in LiveStream gameplay daily, including matches with creators such as Jeremy Adams and Nicole Maines. On the Jim Lee & Friends panel, a surprise appearance by co-head of DC Studios James Gunn brought about a major announcement. Superman will return to Fortnite with his new event, Super Showdown, which was launched on August 2nd.
DC’s global consumer products and DC Shops have developed exclusive products, including variant covers and apparel. Items featuring Crypto from the Superman film quickly sold out, and fans are already hoping for Supergirl themed products before her solo film. The new Peacemaker Gear debuted at HBO Max’s PeaceFest. There, John Cena and James Gunn surprised fans by throwing hats from the balcony of the “Eat Peace, Motherf*Ckers” Hatlock hotel.
On Sunday, the DC booth held a special appearance from Guide Dogs of America’s “Gentle Loving Dogs” program. The trainers showed how dogs support people through behavioral cues, and fans had the opportunity to meet hat-wearing dogs in person, perfectly combined with popular crypto products.
DC also revealed more about the upcoming DC KO crossover event. Creators Joshua Williamson and Scott Snyder have unveiled several characters in the 32 Fighter Bracket. Fan favorites such as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Swamp’s, and Robo made the cut, and fans speculated whether Superman’s Sun-Driven Fist would help them survive the tournament. The event began in October, with Absolute Green Arrow, a night-fight-like tie-in by Williamson and Danmora, arrived in early 2026 from Porn Pichette Shot and Rafael Albuquerque.
There are also high expectations for the Batman: Large Capacity, immersive podcast series that will soon return with the “Dark Victory” storyline. DC previewed the next arc on the Gotham City Panel. It features a trailer and special promotional comics to set the mood.
The Eisner Award and accolades concluded the weekend. Bilquis Evely took home both the Best Penciler ink pot and the eyenner. Other victories include “Space,” short stories from Zatanna: Dover the House (Best Limited Series), Absolute Wonder Woman (Best New Series), and DC Pride 2024 (Best Short Story).
Finally, Matt Fraction first saw fans his upcoming Batman run, which will debut on September 3rd, with new art from Jorge Jiménez being shown on both Jim Lee & Friends and Gotham City Panels. Don’t miss the interview for more information about Haion!
