This year’s San Diego Comic Con 2025 was well won with seeing a spotlight panel dedicated to DeMatteis’ life and work. These types of panels often go down a crucial bit of little-known anecdotes, and industry knowledge, telling the location of figures on the overall trajectory of the medium’s history.
Dematteis ticked all these boxes, but what really stood out from the hour-long panel was the notes he gave to the creative process. After the author’s origin story was laid out, the rest of the panel felt like a detailed class on creativity and execution. Lessons were provided, advice was given and pointed out that writing and storytelling was placed all under the microscope.
