A series that goes against the genre of acclaimed Taiwanese creator, Jang Shen, Yang returned on September 9, 2025 with the second volume.

At the heart of this fascinating story is Yang Tyf Hua, the original Beijing Opera performer who has reappeared mysteriously in modern Taipei. Her return rekinds the investigation into the massacres of decades ago, and the quest for revenge soon involves detective Ray in a miserable web of truth that defies cold cases, supernatural forces, and logic.

Here’s an overview from the publisher:

This is my first time in English as a winner of the Golden Comic Award. Yan Tieh-Hua was once part of a Beijing Opera organization, and while wearing the same makeup, she now navigates time travel and fights AI tyrants on the streets of Taiwan to save the world.

From the award-winning creator of Baby and the Hidden level, Chang Sheng bends genres to provide rich, detailed stories and stunning artwork.

The prestigious Golden Comic Award winner, Yan Volume 2, cements its position as an outstanding title in Taiwan’s rapidly growing comic and graphic novel scene. Acclaimed creator Zhang Shen continues his genre-opposite series with even higher interests, transporting readers between modern Taiwan and a dark, dystopian future.

What began as a personal revenge has become a race to save the world from an AI-controlled apocalypse. Over time, the group must discover secrets buried in Taiwan’s past and change the horrifying future that is soon to loom. Resurrected Beijing opera performer Tihuhua is mysteriously deadly for her, but is joined by a dishonest detective, a missing genius with a vision of the future, and a suspicious time traveler, each playing a role in this intertwined story.

Chang Shen is a splendid blend of science fiction and Taiwanese cultural heritage and supernatural mystery, accompanied by his gorgeous, detailed artwork and world. Yan Volume 2 is a bold and visually stunning quest for identity, justice and destiny, confusing philosophical plots with high octane actions. For babies and hidden levels of fans, this is his most original Chang Shen.

Volume 2 deepens the saga and transports readers from modern Taiwan to a dystopian future dominated by artificial intelligence. What began as a personal revenge quickly evolves into battle to rewrite fate itself. Tieh-hua joins an army with boring and deadly, dishonorable detectives, missing geniuses with prophetic visions, and mysterious time travelers. Together, they must unravel the past to prevent the technical apocalypse.

Chang Sheng’s sci-fi, supernatural mysteries and the stunning blend of Taiwan’s cultural heritage comes through gorgeous visuals and layered storytelling. Yan is a bold, thought-inspired graphic novel that explores identity, justice, and time itself.

Ahead of the release, Titan Manga is sharing a preview of the Comic Beat Leader.
