Large verses enter the era of “reconstruction”

Massiveverse is one of the best things to happen in manga in recent years. Not only does it put a new spin on the superhero genre, but it also pushes the boundaries of what comics can do thanks to multimedia efforts such as animated short films and podcasts. Large-scale creators Kyle Higgins (writer and co-writer of Radiant Black and No/One), Ryan Parrott (writer and co-writer of Rogue Sun), Brian Buccellato (co-writer/co-writer of NO/ONE) and Nick Cotton (co-writer of Rogue Sun) gathered on Friday.

Higgins gives a short summary of the massive verse, calling it a collection of “creator-owned, contemporary superhero stories” that celebrate everything the creators love. “We get a bit off the box in the way we tell stories,” he said. When referring to the “reconstruction” storyline of Radiant Black, Higgins also noted that it referred to a massive itself, as the glowing black and the illegitimate sun returned each month.

Parrott spoke about future issues with Rogue Sun, including the upcoming Sun Rogue #30. Armored Hellspawn first appeared in Supermassive (2023), but Parrott wasn’t sure if he could follow up on that plot point. Luckily, Todd MacFarlane, creator of Spawn, was on the phone. “A lot of chains, a lot of fire, a lot of swords,” Parrott said. “What’s not you like?” Rogue Sun will feature a comeback villain like Hellbent and a new villain, including “The Widow.” Starting with Rogue Sun #31, there is also a series of connecting covers by Marco Locati (Moon Man), paying tribute to Jimley’s iconic X-Men #1 cover.

Next was Massiveverse’s flagship title, Radiant Black. Higgins spoke about the upcoming Radiant Black #36. This is called a “very special issue” that focuses on a woman with no name, Nance, which turns into a new radiant yellow. There is also a QR code that features special surprises. Radiant Black #37 opposes Marshall against privatized troops and features a “lost black” variant by Stray Dogs Team Tony Flecs and Trish Forstner. Radiant Black also has a set of future connection covers described by Mondo artist Matt Taylor.

But it wasn’t the only big news about the glowing black. Higgins has revealed that the audiobook version of Radiant Black is due to be released later this year! The delay in recording was due to Will Friedle. Will Friedle gets sick with Marshall out loud, but Rider Strong, who voices Nathan, completes his voice job. We were all treated to an audiobook snippet featuring Anne Yatco as Satomi Sone/Radiant Red. Yatoko also appeared as a surprise panelist!

Higgins also revealed the remaining cast, stacked with talent. Ross Marquand (Invincible, X-Men ’97) announces the robot Colossal. Damion Poitier (Avengers) and Kevin Porter (Batman: Dying Is Easy) Voice Officer Mills and Peters are two police officers who met Nathan when he first turned a glowing black. Kaiju Tang (Berserk, Jujutsu Kaisen) voices Saitomi’s fiancee, Owen Fujimoto. Finally, Phil Morris (Justice League: Doom) voices the original, shining yellow Wendell George. In addition to this, Higgins also announced that the second “large edition” of Radiant Black is expected to be released in early 2026.

Finally, Higgins and Buccellato discussed no/1, saying they have completed the first draft of the film version of the script. Plus, they showed us the first page. We all got the free code for the first digital edition of No/One, as well as the free starter pack for the large fighting card game. It’s just a sampling of what makes something big and great. You come for the comics and stay for the vast story.

Wherever the comics are on sale, you can use Shining Black, the Unjust Sun, and One. Inferno Girl Red: Book Two #1 will be on sale on December 10th, 2025.
