TV Insider reports that Syfy and USA Network resident aliens will end in the fourth and current season. Showrunner Chris Sheridan checked the news and told the website: “I knew this was likely to be our final season. Creatively, it was exciting because we concluded the storyline and were so proud of how good season 4 is.
Based on the Dark Horse comic series by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, Resident Alien is a comedy drama starring Alan Tadik as “Harry Vanderpeagle,” disguised as a doctor in the town of Patience, Colorado. The show also appeared in 2021 in Sara Tomko, Alice Wetterlund, Corey Reynolds, Levi Fiehlers, Levi Fiehlers, Elizabeth Bowen and Meredith Garretson.
The ratings for the show’s expansion second (16 episodes) season were heavily influenced by midseason recess. This, perhaps coupled with the WGA & SAG-AFTRA strike, won the show’s third eight divisions in 2024. Instead of being cancelled or sold by rival media companies, it will continue to air on the NBCuniversal channel.
The series’ finale will premiere on Syfy and USA on Friday, August 8th at 11pm ET/PT, with the ventilation episode “Mine Town” airing tonight. The new episode will be added to Peacock a week after its premiere. Sheridan said in the finale, “We’re leaving the door open for the future this world may have, while giving the resident aliens a very satisfying ending, and we can’t wait for anyone to see it.”
In the meantime, the show’s more modest source material continues to grow stronger, with the latest four-island miniseries, Resident Aliens: The Book of Changes, scheduled to begin on August 20th.
