Through the Hollywood Reporter, IDW Publishing has announced that the main Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series will have a new creative team. The pair will take over from Jason Aaron and Juan Ferrelia, who renewed the series (along with a few other artists) during the 40th anniversary of Turtle last year. Little has been said about their running premise, but the reunion of the brothers will see them confront Ujigami, a new assassin who brings “personal danger” to the four heroes.

In a statement, Yang described himself as a fan of the Turtles’ childhood. Turtles grew up watching comics from the 1980s and playing with action figures. He first read the comics at a friend’s house and said he was “blown away by the fusion of rough martial arts action and wild, off-left field ideas.” He said, “We all owed a great debt to (TMNT creators) Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird from the (independent) corner of comics. Their talent and creativity paved the way for us for the rest of our lives as comic creators and businessmen.

Unlike Yang, who is new to TMNT and IDW, Williams is not a newcomer who creates turtle comics, but has concluded the Master (2024) of Crossover Batman/Teen Mutant Ninja Couttles (2015-2019) and Space/Teen Mutant Ninja Turtles (2024). However, this is the first time he has provided interior art for the main series. He said, “I love the Ninja Turtles, and the original Mirage comics helped me fall in love with the comic book medium. And of course, I’m very inspired by the power and texture of that early Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird Art!”

Issue 13 will be released on December 10th, with Williams’ main cover, a variant by Dustin Nuguen (you can see below). A variant of the blind bag is also available, featuring covers from creators such as Daniel Warren Johnson, David Nakayama and Clayton Crane. Aaron and Ferrerya’s run will end with issue 12 on September 24th.
