Every week there’s a real horny that hits the stands of new comics. Readers often know exactly what they are most interested in (they have their pull lists sitting in the reliable hands of comic shops), but they are sometimes told about opposing that old trim and judging the book by its cover.
Some truly amazing cover art hits every week. These were the ones that caught Colin’s eye for the week of July 23rd, 2025.
Amazing Spiderman #8
Variations by Gabriele del Otto and Jeff Decal
Two great character spotlights from this issue of Amazing Spider-Man are covered. Dell’otto’s broody Spidey lurks in his web, but gets a bit creepy about the character, and Dèkal’s Black Cat captures something free about her. The two impressive styles are each perfectly suited to the subject.
Gotham City Siren: Not suitable for Orbit #4
Variant by Helen Mask
We’ve already introduced one of Mask’s golden frame portraits, but I found this group image to be great enough to highlight it. I love the idea that these three are looking for portraits and somehow don’t blow up under the weight of their own mess.
Great British bump-off: Kill or Quilt #4
Max Sarin cover
We’ve also previously featured Max Sarin’s vibrant British bake-off cover, but how can we do it? See how colorful it is, how flowing it is, how artistically fluid these are! We love that our girl Shauna wears a patchwork quilt as a kind of cape when she tears that poor piñata apart. Sarin is a gift, I tell you.
New History of DC Universe #2
Variants by Frank Cho
This choice exudes a classic atmosphere with its clean lines, precise geometry and insets of birds and skulls. Cho is the king of cheesecakes, but Canary doesn’t feel overboard here. This is her basic character and a classic activated look.
Phoenix #13
Cover by Lucas Wellneck
Mom’s battle! Here we have Askani’son and Jean soft spots in the cover review, so this cover was destined to be featured. I love the swirling vortex of energy she is postponing, and the cable has the appearance of his classic huge gun and shoulder pads. I also love the chrome details on his techno-organic arms.
Rat City #16
Cover by Daniel Henriquez
Despite the comic age I grew up in (marking the aging of my progress), I was never a spawning guy. This cover looks so cool this spawn guy, so I wish I was the spawn guy. This cover shines a spotlight on Techno-Hell, an incredible character design.
Space Ghost #1
Variant Cover by Michael Cho
Michael Cho’s ability to capture iconic things with iconic, bold lines and subtle shading is inspiration. The crew in the background and the glow around the planets all create a kind of classic movie poster vibe, and it feels as if the 70s Creative Space Ghost was created in the golden age of comic books.
