Hit Paper Girls at Eisner has acquired a fresh look and a more portable one with the release of the backpack edition. This beloved time travel adventure from sagawriter Brian K. Vaughn and Catwoman: Lonely City artist Cliftian has been re-released in a compact 6×9-inch softcover, perfect for throwing your bag and going on your next nostalgic journey.
These new editions showcase brand new cover art by Chiang, targeting both longtime fans and first-time readers. Volume 1 will collect issues 1-10 and comic shop land on Wednesday, October 29th, and a wide range of bookstore releases will be held on Tuesday, November 11th. Volume 2 is scheduled to be released in 2026.
“I’m very proud of what my friend and I did in this series,” Vaughn said. “These gorgeous backpack editions are a great way to introduce this emotional young adult adventure to your loved ones.
The paper girl tracks down a 12-year-old newspaper delivery girl (Erin, KJ, Mac, Tiffany) who will become the starting point for a 1988 Halloween Night bents reality mystery. It’s packed with Stand Stand By Me Meets Losts, an ’80s vibe, an adult heart and high stakes time travel. The series was adapted for television by Amazon Prime and starred Ali Wong.
Fans participating in San Diego Comic-Con will be able to catch Vaughn in their 28DE room on Saturday, July 26th, on the spotlight panel from 10am to 11am. There, we talk about the audience of his upcoming graphic novels with Paper Girl, Saga, and Nico Henricon. He also signs Image Comics ‘Booth (#1915).
The Backpack Edition will take part in all anywhere, Kamikshop, major bookstores and digital platforms, with a wide range of other paper girls formats available in hardcover, paperback and digitally, including a complete story outline, deluxe hardcover.
Small definitely seems to be better as DC Comics has become a compact format these days.
