The teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been experienced ever since Jason Aaron took over the comics. They parted ways for reasons that have not yet been revealed, and when they returned to New York, they had to deal with a leg family to take over their home. But their biggest fight is against the criminal justice system, one of the deadliest enemies they have ever faced. Mayor Hieronymus Hale is bringing the turtle to court. And given that he has legs, and with New York City behind him, things don’t look good for a semi-shell hero.
This time, the focus is on Raphael. This is pretty fitting considering the series was kicked off with him in prison. Aaron and Juan Ferrelia flashed back the moment Raf was in prison and took on various prisoners. Aaron and Ferrelia function like a well-oiled machine at this point, with Aaron’s words acting as Ferrelia’s background, providing a gorgeous, gritty battle scene. Raf moves with the power, accuracy and energy of a very angry person, bringing the image of him standing on a pile of broken bloody bodies.
However, the next two pages are truly outstanding. Raf hits over his head and is dragged into his phone, with one of the panels showing him grinning. Then it shifts to today, rough shaking his face as he wakes up with the rest of his brother and cage. A further hammering prison metaphor is the way Ferrelia draws bars on the edges of these pages, imprisoning turtles in one or more ways. This claustrophobic art style continues throughout teenage mutant ninja turtles #10, and readers feel as if they are trapped as turtles. The dark hues used by Ferrellia bring about an overwhelming sense of despair.

But Aaron’s script offers a moment of hope. One of those moments is characterized by the turtle finally embraces them. This is best seen after it was separated during this run or scattered in each other’s throats. It may be short, but it shows that they still care about each other. A moment later, it not only sets the stage for the upcoming TMNT spinoff series, but also suggests that the turtle will win an alliance in the battle with Hale. The last page in this question is similarly the series is slowly building.
That contrasts with the rest of the story, especially as Hale was able to direct New York at the turtle using anything but his words. Through Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #10, the turtles face witnesses who are meant to trust them, angry mobs calling their heads, and the fact that they don’t have lawyers. The only law active throughout this book is Murphy’s Law, where Aaron behaves it perfectly when he brings the turtle back to the horn. It makes me want to read the following question, “What else is wrong?”
