As previously announced, Hasbro is heading out to everything to celebrate Cold Slither. This is a fictional heavy metal band, toys and even musical album, consisting of disguised members of Dreadnoks from the original Gi Joe Animated series episode. There was also Skybound’s one-shot cold slither comic. Today, the publisher released details from a one-shot of the creative team of author Tim Shealy and artist Juan Cabal, colorist Rex Rox and lettaler Pat Brosso.
Details of the official press release, along with the following cover and preview art:
“The most catching song ever for decorating military-themed toy lines has been living in my head for 40 years in my home, so I’m happy to write a true story of a gross band of sloppy guys who dragged it out and recorded it,” Tim Seeley said.
“My parents met at a cold Slither gig in the ’80s, so drawing this one-shot was really special for me,” Juann Cabal said.
Tune your air guitar and turn off your free will.
Discover the true story (or at least a fiercely biased version) of what happened to Slither coldly through the eyes of the band themselves (no doubt not an eyeliner dreadknock… promise).
But can Gi Joe stop them before the final encore as Cobra tops the charts and dominates the world?
Voice up the comic book preparation, and even Sonic’s ear plugs can’t save you…
“To say that this face-envelowing issue is a labor of love is an understatement,” exclaimed executive editor Ben Abernathy. “For this keen, heartfelt, bringing together this miscellaneous crew of creators together, and seeing the legendary cold slithering excitement and descent made our heavy metal dream come true!”
In addition to the main cover of Steve Beach, Gi Joe’s variant cover: Cold Slither #1 includes an order cover by Juann Cabal, a 1:10 incentive variant by Brent Schoonover, a 1:25 incentive variant by Steve Beach, and a blank sketch cover.
Other important initiatives within Skybound and Hasbro’s overall comic partnership include the hit series Gi Joe: A Real American Hero: A Real American Hero, series writer Larry Hama and Artist Chris Mooneyham (D.C. Nightwing, Sgt. Rockand the Unknown Soldier), covering the legendary Andykbert (Marvel’s X-Men). The partnership hosts two most-funded comic campaigns on Kickstarter at Transformers and Gi Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Sets, and is also behind record crowdfunding success.
Gi Joe: Cold Slither #1 (coming month code | $3.99) is available on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at comic book shops and digital platforms such as Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.
