Kodansha Ltd. has revealed an exciting new collaboration with the coalition with North, Central America and the Caribbean Association’s Football (CONCACAF). This first-time collaboration features acclaimed manga/anime series Blue Rock, centered around soccer, combining high-stakes sports competition with psychological drama and the elimination of survival styles.

The collaboration is the first important thing for CONCACAF, as it partners with well-known Japanese manga and anime companies, and has attracted two beloved global interest through its shared passion for competition, ambition and collaboration. This unique alliance promises to provide fans across exciting crossover events that combine exclusive American original content, limited edition products, and the thrill of international football with the captivating narratives of Japanese animation.

The anime series Blue Rock, inspired by the acclaimed manga of Kaneshiromneki Kinek and Nomura, follows a fierce journey of hopefuls from the Japanese national soccer team as they navigate a high stakes training program aimed at the ultimate advancement. Blue Rock is perfectly aligned with a global soccer culture focused on ambition, competition and teamwork, making this partnership a groundbreaking initiative.

This series has become one of the most successful modern sports anime/manga series. Its edgy take on soccer, dynamic art style and intense character development have made it particularly popular among fans of shows like Haikyuu!!, Kuroko No Basket and Attack on Titan (sharing a similar art team).

“This is a thrilling moment for us,” said Yohai Takami, managing director of global business development at Kodansha Inc.

Reflecting similar sentiments, CONCACAF General Secretary Philip Mogio said: “This collaboration with Kodansha and Blue Rock is a unique and innovative way to attract a new generation of football fans in our region. Anime is a powerful storytelling medium.

This may be the first collaboration from CONCACAF, but it’s not the first time that there has been a soccer and manga mashup. Most recently, in March 2024, the Belgian national soccer team announced that they would wear uniforms inspired by Helje’s Tin Tin.
