While Pridemance may be coming to an end, Maverick has released a new queer, young adult graphic novel that will debut this winter. The beat has all the details. Wrack & Rune, which will be on the shelf in December, was written by Chris Kappel, drawn by Alex Arizmendi, colored by Warnia Sahadewa, and written by Dave Lanphear and Rob Jones. The story centers around a teenager born into a secret magical society where he has to fall in love with a boy from the outside and considers what it means privilege, power and your own growth.

19-year-old Rory Denborough is a translator who can control the world through shape change, telekinesis, shape, teleportation and time travel. There is no off limits for him, thanks to the secret words that his pedigree and his family have taught each new generation. But all this power requires a fierce secret. Rory is tired of being present in such an isolated way. He sneaks out of his family’s apartment to explore only New York City, and meets Tyson, an outsider with no knowledge of the translator.

When Rory and Tyson fall in love, Rory decides to reveal his powers. Tyson quickly ends their honeymoon stage by asking why the magic must be kept secret and forcing Rory to truly mean that he nurtures, the truth of the translator, and waving his gifts. The danger lurks behind these queries.

“I grew up reading stories about secret magical society and families with amazing gifts. The powerful characters in those stories taught me what I had and what I didn’t. “Recently, we’ve seen people who harnessed the enormous power over people they think they’re helpless. I wanted to tell a story like I was raised with my incredible collaborators at Mad Cave and Maverick, which claims that no one is helpless when we stand together.”

Wrack & Rune will be available anywhere the book is on sale on December 2nd. Pre-orders are currently available.
