Joliet Jake Graphic Novel Escape

Z2 and Felipe Sobrielo are on a godly mission. Or maybe Chicago. On June 20, 1980, on the 45th anniversary of the release of the Blues Brothers film, Z2 partnered with the Ackroyd and Belushi family to escape Blues Brothers: Joliet Jake for a series of music and merchandise that tied together with the sequel to the Blue Brothers movie in Comic Form.

For those who have heard of the legend, or those who didn’t catch OG on Netflix, the Bruce brothers starred Dan Acroyd and John Belushi as two blues musicians who go on a quest to raise money to save the orphanage they were raised. Joliet Jake’s Escape picks up the story in 1997, with a mysterious web of mystery tied to the previously invisible adventures of the Bruce brothers.

And this is the first appearance in a graphic novel written by Stella Aykroyd, Luke Pisano and James Werner.

But that’s not all! There is a music companion album discovered by the late Judy Beluci Pisano, an unreleased song by Jake and Elwood Blues. Side pues for the project include Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Steve “Colonel” Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dan, Paul “Siv” Sharfer, Lou “Blue Lou” Marini, Tom “Bones” Malone, Alan “Mr. “Fabulous” Rubin, Steve “Gett Dawa” Jordan, and Tom “Triple Scale” Scott. The album features unprecedented versions of Blues Classics, including “Hey Bartender,” “Rubber Biscuit,” and “Green Onions.”

However, the album is only available as a royal blue vinyl release packaged with Blues Brothers: Joliet Jake’s Escape.

To celebrate today’s 45th anniversary, Z2 is also releasing a series of high-quality Blues Brothers apparel. The first two designs in this capsule collection feature the art of Felipe Sobreiro and are available only at Z2comics.com.

And here’s a preview of the graphic novel:

And this peeks out at 13 unreleased tracks featured in the Bruce Brothers: Lost Recording Royal Blue Vinyl LP:

Side a

“Welcome” “Flip, Flop & Fly”

3. “Habertender”

“Messin with the kids,” “(I got everything I needed)” “Most,” “Gum Biscuit,” “Shotgun Blues.”

Side b

“I don’t know,” “Groove Me,” “Rakthz Moi Mon Cherie,” “Soulman,” “B Movie Box Car Blues,” “Green Onion.”

Bruce Brothers Deluxe Edition: Joliet Jake’s Escape and a limited Platinum Edition with Dan Akiloid Signature, including the oversized hardcover with slipcases, the Bruce Brothers, carved harmonica, and the Blues Collector Cards of Jake and Elwood, are all available at Z2comics.com. Both the Deluxe and Platinum editions come with new covers and slip cases with exclusive art by Feli Peso Brairo. All hardcover, deluxe and platinum editions have an in-store retail day on October 7th, but fans can get them in advance.

Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake can be pre-ordered via Z2Comics.com, Amazon, Barnes, Noble, UltimateClassicrock.com, and many other great independent books, comics and record stores.
